One corner of his lips pulls in a half-smile. “Are we? And how does it feel being our omega?”

Like the best feeling in the world.

“Wrap your legs around me,” he says. “I didn’t make you laugh. Maybe I can make you feel good some other way.”

There’s no guessing what other way that is.

“We should be getting to the bottom of…” I moan when Kylian lifts me and his cock bumps my core.

I tilt my head back, burying my hands in Kylian’s hair as he kisses my throat.

“Cian is out doing some legwork. Rune is on the computer building a list of free clinics in the city. That leaves you and me to entertain each other.”

“Entertain?” I gasp when he closes his teeth around my earlobe.

“That involves me making you feel good, Everleigh. Me reminding you not all alphas in this world need to die.” He lifts his head and his gaze clashes with mine. They’re surprisingly serious. “It involves me chasing the sadness from your eyes and replacing it with something good instead.”

I study Kylian and wonder what keeps happening to the playboy alpha with the wicked smile that could charm the panties off any omega in the city. It’s almost as if he wants me to see a side of him no one else in the city does. Could that be it?

“Alphas knot omegas.” I remind him.

To be locked to an alpha is something I never want again. The first time Lawrence knotted me was during my heat and I loved it. Loved how it extended our pleasure—both mine and his. Loved how his knot hit a part of me that made me climax over and over. But that feeling didn’t last. Lawrence taught me to hate a knot because it tied me to a man I hated for even longer.

Kylian nods, still holding me flush against him. His erection is growing by the second, and it tempts me to wrap my legs around him. I don’t. I know exactly what would happen if I were to give in to that urge.

“Your legs, Everleigh,” he breathes.

I shake my head. The second I do that, I’m not going to be satisfied with anything less than him deep inside me. “No.”

I’m bracing myself for him to order me. He surprises me by shrugging. “Okay. Alphas knot omegas, but they don’t always have to.”

During an omega’s heat, an alpha has to knot her if he wants her to have any relief. The next time I start burning up will be my actual heat. And when that happens… no suppressant in the world will work. Nothing will work but an alpha’s knot.

But when she’s not in heat…

I search his expression. “You’re saying you won’t knot me?”

My heart is pounding. In anticipation? In fear? I’m not entirely sure.

“I won’t knot you,” he promises me. “You have my word.”

“Not many alphas would make that promise,” I tell him. Certainly none of Lawrence’s friends, or even Lawrence himself. They only cared about what they wanted, andonlywhat they wanted.

“This one will. When you want my knot, and only when you want it, I’ll give it to you. Until then, we go at your pace.”

“Or until I go into heat,” I say. “Then I won’t care what I want, and neither will you.”

He gives me a long, probing look and then lifts one hand from my hip to cup the nape of my neck. “You are more than an omega, Everleigh.”

“You say that like you know me.” I don’t see how he could.

“I do.” There’s not an ounce of doubt in his voice.

I study him, wondering at his confidence. “You don’t.”

He strokes a single finger up and down the back of my neck, and I smother a moan at the surprisingly pleasurable sensation. “I know you need space to breathe.”

“Everyone needs space to breathe,” I correct him.
