Will say

No one has ever shone brighter

Brighter than you.

Well, I can tell you the same.

Your life is a diamond

Your tears are the stars

Your sky is the sun

Every single time

I’ll pull you from the ledge

I won’t let you go

No, I won’t let go

I wouldn’t get over losing you

No one ever would.

How did you think that

Leaving me behind

Was ever going to be ok?

How did you think that

Leaving me behind

Was ever going to be ok?

Was never going to be ok.

I wroteFireworksa couple of days after he was admitted to a rehab clinic to help him deal with his issues, and it came out a month later, and reached number one on Spotify within a couple of hours. It stayed at the top for months. I guess it resonated with a lot of people–which I hate, but I’m glad if my words helped save even one life.

I’ll be more than glad if they help save his.

My whole entire mess of a life will have been worth it.

Theo–Teddy only to his closest friends–called me the day the song came out. He was still inside the rehab, and I didn’t even know if he would listen to it right away. Plus, Teddy is notorious for never calling anyone. He never answers his phone. He is the hardest person to reach on the planet.

But he called me that day.

He was crying, sobbing. He knew the song was for him, instantly. He is a genius after all. Well, he is a spectacular idiot for a genius. But still.

“I’ll never do that to you, Isaiah, you understand?” he’d said, his voice heaving with sobs. I remember just standing in the middle of my kitchen, frozen, phone in hand, listening to my best friend cry. “I won’t do that, not to you. I’ve promised, haven’t I? Well, just in case, I promise again. I’ll promise every day if you want me to.”

“It’s ok, Teddy,” I told him, hardly knowing what I was saying. “It’s ok. It’s not your fault.”

Wanting to die is not his fault. It’s everybody else’s. But it’s not his. He’s fighting the urge every single day, I know that. Every single minute. I’m just scared out of my mind of the day he loses.

“I won’t do it,” he repeated. “Not to you.”
