“You did?”

“Yeah.”

“Aw,mio angelo,” I murmured, brushing her cheek with my fingertips.

Bianca leaned into my touch. “It’s nothing compared to the ride in the cab.”

I tilted her chin up, staring into her striking blue eyes. “Tell me.”

“Carlo pulled off his disguise after I said I wanted to come back to you. I—”

Wait. “You wanted to come back to me? To the hotel?”

“Well, yes, of course.”

Surprised by her admission, I pressed my lips to hers in a soft kiss. “What made you change your mind?”

“Mynonnolied and kept secrets. He tried to manipulate me, and it’s not the first time.”

“No,” I agreed sadly, “it’s not.”

“Carlo tried to hold me at gunpoint.”

My mouth closed as my teeth clenched at her words. Only a growl escaped.

“He shot at me three times. I can’t believe he missed.”

Rage exploded inside me, and my grip tightened as I tried to avoid hurting her arm in the sling. “He’ll suffer for every single bullet.”

“I think he might already be dead.”

I frowned. “Because of the accident?”

“He lost control of the car after I shot him in the shoulder,” she began as macabre laughter left my lips.

“You shot him? Where did you get a gun?”

“From Aunt Porcia,” she responded proudly.

I couldn’t help smirking at that.

Her smile vanished as she continued, “Carlo lost consciousness, and we crashed. The taxi tumbled downhill and flipped over in a creek bed.”

“Fuck.”

“I made it out, but he didn’t. The car got swept away in the current.”

My gaze roamed her body and each injury, committing them to memory. When I found Carlo, I would take a piece of flesh for every fucking one of them. “If he lived, he’ll bleed. I’ll make sure of it.”

“Benny.”

My forehead lowered to hers. “You’re mine to protect, Binc. You have been since the day we met at your father’s funeral. Fate brought us together because you needed protection, and I needed love.” I wasn’t sure where that insight came from, but every word was true.

Bianca sniffled as we separated, and her watery gaze lifted to mine. “I love you, Benezio De Santo.”

It wasn’t the first time she told me. Bianca revealed her feelings at the hotel, but today, with tears shimmering in her eyes and her voice throaty with emotion, those words rocked my fucking world.

I didn’t do sweet. Not before I met Bianca Huber. She brought out the wild beast inside me who craved every inch of her body, but she also spoke to my heart, bringing it to life. She helped me learn to trust again at a time in my life when only darkness and pain existed.
