Sal Russo? My grandmother’s brother?

“I don’t understand. Let me out of this car!” I reached for the handle, desperate to throw the door open. I’d jump if I needed to and walk back, even in the dark.

Anything to get back to my Benny.

I heard a heavy click that seemed to echo inside the cab’s interior. My gaze flicked to the front, where the cab driver pulled out a gun, aiming straight at my chest over his shoulder. “I won’t miss. Do us both a favor. Stay in the car.”

Stunned, I didn’t reply.

He pulled off his hat and a fake beard as the car swerved, tossing them aside. He straightened out the wheel, keeping me within range.

It took a moment for his real identity to sink in. I never considered the driver wearing a disguise this entire time or that I would be caught in the clutches of a madman.

Carlo Tripoli.

Rubio’s best friend.

Oh, Benny, I’m in serious trouble now.

Chapter 1

Rael sat across fromme in a booth at the bar, his ass planted on a chair at The Crossroads, far too close for my liking, as he leaned across the table’s surface. The fucker knew he agitated me but didn’t care. “Just got a text about that hotel room you were in.”

“So?” I asked, knowing my attitude would taunt him.

“You trashed the place. My credit card got charged eleven hundred dollars for the damage.”

I folded my arms across my chest, noting his smug expression. “You don’t seem that upset.”

“I’m not. I’ll just pimp you out until it’s paid.”

If I didn’t know better, I would have believed him. Straight fucking face. No emotion. Not even a hint of amusement that usually lingered on his lips.

My middle finger lifted, flipping him off. “Fuck you.”

He smirked.
