“And I’mnotfucking you,” I growled for clarification.

He howled with laughter. “I have Nylah to fuck, brother.”

Asshole. He knew what I meant after that comment about pimping me out.

Grim, the president of the Royal Bastards in Tonopah, NV, joined us, pulling up a chair to the edge of the table. He didn’t sit next to his SAA, and I didn’t have to guess why as Rael flashed him a wicked grin.

Grim shook his head. “Maddog and Devil want to meet in the chapel. I’m giving them a few minutes before we join them.”

I figured as much. Apparently, Devil and Maddog went way back, meeting at a biker rally over twenty years earlier, or so the rumor went. Today was the first time they had caught up in years.

Grim leveled me with a penetrating stare, one of those intense looks that proved he was mulling shit over in his head, possibly trying to figure me out after the shit of the last few days.

“Told you he was an interesting one,” Rael chuckled.

Grim blinked, but his focus didn’t stray. “He would have made a unique Reaper.”

“Yep,” Rael agreed.

A week ago, I wouldn’t have known what those words meant, but since a few of the Tonopah brothers showed up and reaped Rubio’s soul after I finished with him, I knew exactly what they were saying. And ...fuck.

I shuddered as I remembered how those scythes appeared in their bony hands and how the earth swallowed up the remnants of Rubio’s soul. That was some macabre shit. But I had to admit it fascinated me.

Grim smirked. “I thought so.”

Rael nodded. “Yeah. He would have had a badass Reaper.”

I swallowed as my gaze bounced between them. “I don’t know about that.”

“You scared?” Rael asked, letting his Reaper surface.

I caught the skeletal visage and shrugged. “Only a fool would deny it.”

He nodded before a wide grin spread across his face, and the Reaper receded. “That’s why we like you. You remind us of Shadow.”

Shadow. One of the youngest members of the Tonopah chapter. I didn’t know a lot about his story, but he mentioned that his ol’ lady had been trafficked and missing for several years before he hunted down the fuckers who took her. He had smiled when he told me about his vengeance in the lower levels of a Las Vegas casino. I sensed something different about him and noticed how the other brothers in the club seemed protective of him. Shadow had a limp, and sometimes he spoke with a slight lisp.

I wondered what it would have been like to have that kind of support when my father died. What kind of man would I be now if revenge hadn’t driven me to this point? Would I have found Bianca or ended up in a motorcycle club?

“Best to let the past go, Manic. There’s a reason it’s not in the present.”

Wise words.

“How did you—,” I began.

Grim clasped a hand on my shoulder. “My Reaper. He’s gifted that way. Maybe someday I can tell you more.”

I’d like that.

“Time to join Devil and Maddog.”

The door to the chapel swung open, and Devil ticked his chin my way as his thick shoulders filled the doorway.

I stood and followed Grim into the chapel, noting that Rael didn’t follow us.

It was a bit intimidating as I sat down inside the chapel across from three motorcycle club presidents. Grim, Devil, and the newest president, Maddog, fixed me with intense stares.

I wisely kept my mouth shut until one of them spoke first.
