Chapter 9

The procedure didn’ttake long. Luckily, Bianca’s chip was located in the same area as Porcia’s, so removing it was quick.

I couldn’t say painless.

Bianca squeezed my hand hard enough to cut off circulation, but I didn’t complain. The only thing that mattered was knowing my presence brought her comfort.

“It’s out.”

She breathed out a sigh as Patriot closed the wound, carefully tying the stitches while she avoided staring at her arm. “I can’t stay here. We need to go someplace mynonnowon’t look.”

“I know,” I replied, already way ahead of her. “We’re leaving as soon as you’re bandaged up.”

Both women had to get the fuck out of The Crossroads now that Bianca’s tracker would ping this address. I wondered if Grim would be pissed that trouble was probably headed this way.

Maybe. But the Reapers could handle it.

Porcia’s gaze flicked to Exorcist. “I can’t stay here either. It’s not safe. I’ll figure something out, Ex.”

His face twisted in a snarl. “You’re not going anywhere without protection.”

She sighed. “We’ve been over this.”

“I’m not fucking leaving you alone, woman.”

I watched the exchange, curious about their interaction. Exorcist seemed wound tight. I wondered what had gone down between the two of them since the night they met in Texas. He saved her life when she was shot. He fucking healed her. I saw the way his palm lit up with energy and light. I would never have believed it if I didn’t witness it with my own eyes.

“Come with us,” I offered.

Porcia shook her head. “It’s not safe for Bianca.”

Exorcist crowded her space, nearly pushing her into the wall as he growled, “You’re in danger too.”

“Ex.”

His hand lifted while tattooed fingers brushed across her cheek. “Don’t ask me to leave you right now. I’m not fucking doing it.”

Her head tilted to lean into his touch. “Okay.”
