His chin dipped, and I could swear he almost kissed her. Their eyes held for a moment before he turned in my direction. “I have a safe place where I can take Porcia. You should get Bianca out of here and as far from her grandfather as possible.”
“That’s the plan.”
Exorcist reached for Porcia’s hand and led her toward the door. “We’ll be in touch.”
She blew a kiss to Bianca. “I’ll text you once it’s safe.”
Bianca waved from the table, nodding as she watched Porcia close the door. “Something is going on between those two.”
“Yeah,” I agreed.
“Benny?”
“Yes,angelo?”
“I’m scared.”
Frowning, I opened my mouth to reply when Patriot finished bandaging her arm and stepped back.
“I don’t think you need to worry, Bianca. This big fucker next to you would die to keep you safe. He’s not letting anyone get too close.”
“It’s not that,” she admitted, sitting up with my help. “I just have the worst feeling of dread, like something bad is about to happen.”
“When you say bad,” I began, feeling the presence within me begin to stir. Until now, the shadow had been mostly quiet, but unease spread throughout my body, and it wasn’t coming from me. A fierce wave of possessiveness swept within and attached to my soul. I would die for Bianca, and so would the shadow who now resided inside me.
Weird.
Bianca gasped, reaching for my hand. “That shadow is back.”
“What do you mean?”
“I can’t describe it well, but I see the darkness pass over your eyes like it’s a separate entity.” She shivered. “So strange.”
“Are you afraid of it?”
She shook her head. “No. Isn’t that odd? Somehow, I feel comforted like it’s a part of you and will protect me.”
The presence intensified, and I felt a surge of emotion. Desire. Affection. Determination.
