Grim took a long drag from his cigarette. “Possibly.”

“Then tell me.”

“You sure?” Rael asked. “Because that shit can’t be taken back once you know.”

I wasn’t stupid or naïve. “I need to hear it, whatever it is.”

“Bianca’s pregnant,” Grim announced, “but that’s not all.”

Yes! My heart soared with the news.

“She’s too early to know. Right?”

“Yeah, but brother, you got to hear the rest now.”

A sickening dread filled my stomach. “What?”

“She’s got something wrong inside her womb. A sickness.” Rael swallowed loudly. “She needs to see a doctor as soon as possible.”

My heart thudded and almost stopped. “What the fuck does that mean?”

Grim cracked his neck. “She needs a healer more than a doctor, but Exorcist isn’t here. He took Porcia to a safe house.”

So how the fuck was any of this helpful? A frustrated growl broke free from my chest.

“I’ll track down Exorcist. Stay focused, Manic. You need to deal with your past so you can have a future with Bianca.”

Rael’s eyes clouded over and rolled back in his head. He jolted as he began mumbling incoherent words. I stared at him, wondering if he just lost his fucking mind.

Grim finished his cigarette. “He’s been doing that lately, ever since his twin boys started walking. Like his Reaper is looking ahead to be sure they stay safe.”

It sort of made sense in a weird, twisted way. “Uh, okay.”

Grim smirked. “Don’t fucking lose your shit about this. We’ll help Bianca. She’ll be fine. So will your boy.”

Fuckkkkk. Bianca carried my son.

Joy bloomed inside me, and then it fizzled into worry. A fierce, overprotective surge threatened to explode from my body as I felt the shadow’s worry combine with my own.

Shit. I didn’t need this from two places at once.

“I have to eliminate the threat against Bianca. You know about the hit on her. I’ve got to deal with Sal Russo and Alaric Huber.”

“I know,” Grim conceded.

“There’s a lot of shit about to go down,” Rael added. “You want company? That motherfucker Russo needs to be sent to Lucifer.”

Hell yeah. Why not? “I get the first crack at him.”

“Done,” Rael agreed.

“Take Jigsaw and Bodie,” Grim ordered. “He’s been restless.”

“Will do, pres.”

Grim stomped out the cinders of his cigarette with his boot after he flicked the butt to the asphalt. “If you need anything, let us know. We got your back, Manic.”

“Appreciate it,” I replied, holding back the wave of emotion his words conjured.
