Page 51 of Reckless Mayhem

Since the first moment I met the Tonopah Bastards, I felt accepted. The brotherhood between Maddog and this chapter went deep. It also extended to Devil and the Reaper’s Vale MC. The family I never had but always wanted. The kind of family I lost.

Bianca left The Crossroads, exiting the door and smiling as our eyes met. I couldn’t help letting my gaze run over her as if I could sense any changes myself. I didn’t notice much, except she smelled sweeter than ever when she reached my side. Her skin glowed with health, only making my stomach twist into knots.

Fuck. Taking her the rest of the trip on my bike seemed risky and stupid now.

“Ready to ride?”

Her question made me scowl. “It’s too cold,” I blurted, coming up with an excuse in a hurry.

“Benny.” She shook her head. “It’s seventy degrees, and the sun is out.”

“There’s a lot of reckless fucks on the road.”

She laughed, patting my arm. “I’ll be safe. You’re with me.”

Goddamn. Her trust in me always pushed through my barriers. “Fine.” The word left my lips in a growl.

I hugged her and then led her to the truck, where I unloaded my bike and opened the saddlebags, tugging out a leather jacket and extra helmet.

She didn’t argue when I made her put them on.

I bet she could tell I wasn’t backing down.

The leather swallowed her up, but she was warm and protected. I reached inside the saddlebags and found the mask I was looking for. I didn’t need the phantom today. The shadow warrior inside rumbled his agreement as he heard my thoughts. Manic, the demon of the night, would take over.

I turned to the side, hiding my face before removing the bone-white mask. Bianca placed it inside my bag for safekeeping as I pulled the new prosthetic over my head, adjusting the black mask and ensuring it rested in the correct spots on my face.

“Wow,” Bianca whispered as I turned to her. “You truly are my demon of the night, Benny.”

“And vengeance will be ours,” I promised, closing the bags.

My skin tingled, and my body almost trembled with the thought of finally bringing my father’s killers to justice. Once he was vindicated, I would take my pound of flesh from the men who violated me.

Rael’s hand landed on my shoulder before I sat on my bike. His voice lowered so that only I could hear it. “Russo is with Huber. Prepare for a showdown.”

Amused, I almost laughed. Rael had a flair for drama.

“I don’t need luck or to prepare. I’m ready to help harvest a few souls.”

That brightened Rael’s face. “Now that’s what I’m fucking talking about.”

NIGHT HAD FALLEN BYthe time we reached the Huber Estate. Our bikes rumbled to a stop outside of the massive property, where we couldn’t tip off our arrival. Rael, Jigsaw, and Bodie parked a few feet ahead of me as I stood, turning my attention to Bianca.

“This is going to get bloody, cara mia. Maybe you should stay with Craven.”

I hadn’t heard from the old man I considered a second father for days. That wasn’t unusual, though. He tended to get lost in his books and mortician work and sometimes wouldn’t surface for weeks. But if I needed him, I knew he would drop everything to lend aid.

“Benny, I can handle your darkness.”

“It’s not mine that worries me,” I admitted. “I’ll be facing my enemies, and that leaves you vulnerable. I don’t want you used against me.”

She opened her mouth to argue but closed it with a soft sigh. “Okay.”

“That easy, huh?” I laughed.

“I don’t want to be a distraction.”

I tugged her against my side and kissed her forehead. “Mio angelo. I’m the luckiest bastard alive.”
