Eddie gaped at him. “He’s nearly dead. What possible danger could he be to you?”

“He’s a hell prince.” Yesterday glowered at her. “They’re just about immortal.”

She had thought Shade looked better since she’d brought him up here, but that could have been wishful thinking on her part. “What about his mortal wound? Can he heal himself?”

“Oh, yes.” Yesterday nodded.

Information that would have been useful before she’d dragged him up the stairs. “You could have told me that.”

She probably would have dragged him up the stairs anyway. Leaving him down there in his condition didn’t sit right with her.

“You didn’t ask.” Yesterday smirked. “I did tell you that only a hell prince could kill him.”

“Yes.” Eddie reached for her diminishing patience. The popping against the pot lid pulled her attention back to the stove. About thirty seconds later, she was adding melted butter and salt to a large bowl of hot, freshly popped corn. “But you also said he had a mortal wound and only another hell prince with an obsidian blade could give him that.”

“Did I say that?” Yesterday’s googly eyes locked on her popcorn, and he licked his lips.

No way she was sharing her popcorn with him. She tossed a kernel into her mouth. “Yup.” To up the ante, she shoved a fistful in her mouth. “That’s what you said.”

“Well.” Yesterday sidled closer, a droplet of drool forming at the corner of his mouth. “It’s hard to tell a mortal wound from the regular kind.”

“Oh, yeah?” Eddie took childish pleasure in her next fistful of popcorn. Her aching back muscles had a bone to pick with Yesterday if he had been stretching the truth. “So, what made you say Shade was mortally wounded.”

“Eh?” Yesterday shot her an aggravated look before going back to ogling her popcorn. “Well, look at him. Doesn’t he look like he’s mortally wounded?”

“You see, that’s the thing.” Eddie sucked butter and salt off her fingers. “I don’t know anything about demons, hell princes, hell hounds, or mortal wounds. I’m relying on you for my information.”

“Of course.” Yesterday sidled closer. “And I have all the information for you.” He got even closer. “All the information you need.” He puffed up his chest and waggled his ears. “I am a demon. I know all about hell.”

His bombast annoyed her. “You’re an imp.”

“An imp is a demon.” He smirked.

He made a grab for her popcorn.

Eddie snatched the bowl back before he could grab a handful. “Answers first.”

“Aww.” Yesterday’s face fell into pitiful pleading. “I am hungry.”

“No, you’re not.” Eddie chowed down on another fistful. “You ate three jars of peanut butter today.”

“Did not.” Yesterday pouted.

“Yup.” Eddie tossed a kernel into her mouth. “I bought three jars yesterday. Today there are none left.” She carefully selected her next kernel and ate it. “I didn’t eat them. So, you do the math.”

Yesterday harrumphed. “Why are we talking about this?”

“Agreed.” Eddie had him now. “What I want to talk about is hell princes.”

Yesterday glared at the popcorn bowl. “It is dangerous to talk about hell princes. Hell princes are powerful.”

“How powerful?” She grabbed another handful and held it in her hand.

Yesterday drooled. “Very powerful. Very, very powerful.” He wiped saliva off his chin. “Very powerful.”

Yeah, he wasn’t getting popcorn for that. “What can they do?”

“Everything.” Yesterday growled.
