Yesterday tried to bolt.

The hound stretched out one massive paw and pinned him to the floor.

“Make them stop,” Yesterday shrieked.

Bitter bite followed by a burst of sweet. “Don’t break him.”

The hound threw her a loaded glance.

“Yeah, I know.” Eddie got it. “He’s annoying.”

Yesterday gasped and glowered at her. “Really?”

“Ah.” Shade strolled through the door. His lovely bits mercifully concealed by denim. He’d taken the time to find a T-shirt with the jeans. A faded pink smiley face stretched over his broad chest and somehow managed to look sexy.

It could have been him being covered up, or the coffee, probably the combination of both, but Eddie’s brain finally clicked into action. “This is Yesterday.”

“An imp.” Shade sauntered closer to Yesterday and nudged him with his foot.

Shade even had perfect toes. It wasn’t right.

He closed on her and pried the mug from her fingers. He risked his life by taking a long sip. He swallowed and sighed. “Of all of your human creations, coffee might be my favorite.”

They might have found a tiny patch of common ground, but that didn’t mean she was prepared to share her coffee. “I poured you a mug.” She pointed. “Creamer’s in the fridge.”

Shade grinned and turned back to Yesterday. With her fucking coffee.

Growling, Eddie snatched up the other cup and doctored it as she liked it. “Don’t get comfortable here.”

“Here?” He smirked. “This realm? Your kitchen?” His eyes smoldered. “Your bed?”

Done with words, she snapped, “Yes.”

Shade laughed and strolled closer to where the hounds were keeping Yesterday pinned. Tilting his head, he studied Yesterday. “What is an imp doing here?”

Yesterday wriggled and squirmed beneath the hound’s paw. He tossed Eddie a pitiful look.

She’d step in if it looked like he was in real danger, but it hadn’t escaped her caffeinated brain that Shade might get her the answers she wanted. It struck her that despite all Yesterday had told her about hell princes, she didn’t seem afraid of this one. And maybe she should be. A being described as power might be one to stay on the right side of. Screw it! He’d pissed her off, and she had a temper of her own.

Shade crouched down closer to Yesterday. “Speak, imp.”

“I didn’t want to,” Yesterday whined. “I didn’t mean to.”

Leaning closer, Shade took a deep sniff. “You stink of Wrath. You are of Wrath’s court.”

“He said Wrath wanted to kill him,” Eddie said, deciding to hurry this along before the risk of torture rose.

“Why?” Shade pinned Yesterday with a stare.

“I don’t know,” Yesterday blubbered, tears snaking down his cheeks.

“He told me he might have said something to some demons to make you angry with Wrath.”

Shade gripped Yesterday by the throat. “What did you do?”

“I did nothing,” Yesterday squealed.

As his fingers tightened around Yesterday’s throat, Shade’s voice went deep and resonant. “You will regret your troublemaking, imp.”
