We say goodbye, and I wander over to the windows to gaze out at the grey sky. I have nothing to do tomorrow, no one to see, nowhere to go. I could take a ride on my Harley, but Kate will scowl at me if she finds out I've done that. And she will know. I'm sure the she-demon can see me wherever I go.

Luckily, my cousin Evan left food in the refrigerator. After a few hours of staring at the television, I make myself dinner and eat it while…watching TV. I need a life, don't I?Bod an Donais. I know exactly what Hugh would say.You need to get laid, mate. And he'd be right.

I manage to sleep that night, despite hearing in my head the voices of everyone I know telling me to stop acting like a numpty. When I do fall asleep, I have dreams that ensure I wake up not at all rested.

Because I dream of Kate Wagner.

She's naked, of course, and not behaving like a professional therapist. In my fantasies, she does things that would make an adult film star blush, and I wake up with the stiffest morning hard-on I've ever had. Aye, the lass is bonnie and sexy, but I can't get past her rigid attitude about…everything. Maybe I drive her to act that way. Donnae know. I haven't seen her with other people, so maybe she treats all her patients like naughty children.

Though I wouldn't mind if she spanked me…

Bloody hell. I do not want Kate. She's the most annoying woman I've ever met.

Since I have an entire day to do anything I want, before I return to the torture chamber tomorrow, I decide to go sightseeing. When Jack suggested this therapeutic getaway in Inverness, I'd told him I would go back to my carpentry work on the days when I didn't have physical therapy sessions. He threatened to take away my car keys and my Harley if I tried to do any sort of work.

"You need to recuperate," Jack had said. "Your knee will never fully heal if you don't give it a chance."

Then he offered to pay all my living expenses for the month that I'm in Inverness. I wanted to tell him "away and chew a brush," but I knew Jack wouldn't give up that easily. So I took the coward's route and agreed to his plan.

Sightseeing by myself isn't any fun at all. I stare at Loch Ness for a while, then I shop for souvenirs to give to my family. Since they are all Scottish, except for the American women so many of them have married, souvenirs seem like a moronic idea. I do it anyway. Aye, I'm an eejit. I spend the rest of the day watching football on TV.

And then it's doomsday, otherwise known as my second appointment with Kate.

Seconds after I sit down in the waiting room, Hugh rings me. "Has the she-demon gnawed all the flesh off your bones yet?"

"No, yecacan. I haven't seen her yet."

"Are you sure you're Callum MacTaggart? An alien parasite must've taken over your body, because my best mate would never call me a wee shit."

"Of course I would."

"But only in a cheeky tone."

I rub my eyes and groan. "Sorry, Hugh. When will you get here?"

"Should be there to meet you after your appointment. I'm in the air as we speak, flying across Scotland."

"All right. See you in a while."

"Cheers, Callum."

I grumble and end the call. Aye, I'm glad Hugh is coming for a visit, but I do not look forward to my next therapy session.

"Callum."

Kate's voice snaps me out of my thoughts. She's standing on the other side of the waiting room, holding the door to the torture chamber open while looking at me. I heave myself off my chair, and every part of me feels stiff from just sitting in the hard, uncomfortable seat. Why do medical places always have chairs that a robot wouldn't want to sit on?

I hobble toward Kate and follow her down the hall and into the exercise room. "Walk around the room briskly for five minutes."

"Havenae ye heard of the word please?" I ask. "Ahmno a dog."

"But I already know how difficult you are, so I'm taking a no-nonsense approach."

"You have a nonsense-only approach too? Or half-nonsense?"

She ignores my comments and waves her hand in a circular gesture. "Walk around the room for five minutes. It's your warm-up for today." She lays a hand on my arm, opening her mouth like she wants to speak, but she hesitates, eying my biceps. "You must work out when you're at home."

"Aye."
