"Those were the Fates," Mia said. "There is no other explanation. One of them pretended to be a programmer named Brian."

Frankie was lost. "What do you mean the Fates? Who are they? And how did we end up talking about a guy named Brian? I want to know what makes me a Dormant aside from some elusive thing like affinity. I'm an easygoing, likable girl. Many people feel affinity toward me."

"There was also Lisa. Remember her?"

"Yeah, Geraldine's niece."

"Lisa is not really her niece. Anyway, she claims to be able to sniff out Dormants. So once Toven mentioned how much he liked you and Margo, we thought it might be affinity, and we brought Lisa to do her thing. She thought that both you and Margo were Dormants. That's why Toven offered you the jobs as beta testers. The idea was that you would come to the village, I mean the compound, and find nice immortal males to bond with who would induce your transition."

Frankie felt dizziness assail her again and lifted her hand to stop Mia from saying anything more. "I need a moment."

Dagor

Dagor didn't like the comment about other immortal males inducing Frankie, and it annoyed him that he was bothered by it. Even if Frankie was a Dormant who could turn immortal like Aru's mate, Dagor didn't want to be saddled with a hybrid he could never take home with him. He had no intention of spending his immortal life on Earth.

"I need a moment." Frankie's quivering voice got his attention.

"What's wrong?" He leaned to look at her ashen face.

"It's all too much. I can't process it all at once. I need time to think."

"Do you want us to leave and let you rest?" Mia asked.

Yes, please leave. Dagor wanted to be left alone with Frankie.

"Not yet. So, let's say that I am a Dormant. How do I become immortal, and what does it take?"

Mia frowned. "You just said it was too much, and you couldn't take it all in at once. Perhaps we should continue with the Immortals 101 course tomorrow after you’ve had a good night's sleep."

Frankie nodded and then turned to Dagor. "Can you stay a little longer? I'm afraid I will faint and no one will be here to revive me, and I don't want Mia and Toven to lose sleep because of me."

"We can stay," Mia said.

"No, I'll stay." Dagor took Frankie's hand. "I can spend the night on the couch in the living room. Just leave the bedroom door open so I can hear your breathing."

She gave him a dazzling smile. "We can both be on the couch or in bed and watch television until we fall asleep."

The faint scent of her arousal indicated that watching television was not what she had in mind.

"Sounds like a plan to me." He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles.

Toven rose to his feet and pinned Dagor with a hard look. "Can I have a moment with you outside?"

Long years of deferring to royals had Dagor incline his head. "Of course."

Cursing his automatic response internally, he pushed to his feet and followed Toven outside the suite.

Frankie rolled her eyes. "Are you going to give him the big brother speech of treating your little sister with respect?"

"Something like that." Toven's smile looked strained.

"I'll wait for you here," Mia said. "I'll help Frankie clear the table."

"Don't touch anything. I'll do it when I return," Dagor shot behind him as he followed Toven.

"Bossy, bossy," Frankie murmured as she got to her feet. "Clearing dishes will not make me faint. It's your outlandish stories that make me dizzy."

Dagor was about to reply, but Toven's hand on his shoulder sent a clear message that the god had no patience for waiting.
