Once they were out in the hallway, Toven let go of his shoulder. "So here is a crash course about Dormants. The transition gets triggered by venom and semen, meaning sex. We don't know what exactly happens, but it seems that the chemicals in our venom and semen are the catalysts. If you have sex with Frankie tonight, use a condom to prevent inducing her transition. She's just learned about our world, and she's not ready, neither mentally nor physically. The doctor can tell us more about the physical aspects tomorrow after she runs some tests. Is everything clear so far?"

"I think so, except for where to get condoms. I never use them." He wanted to add that the god probably didn't use them either, but it was none of his business.

Toven smiled. "They have them in the clinic. You can dash there, and I'll tell Frankie that you need to get something from your room. We will not leave her side until your return."

"Thank you." Dagor bowed his head.

"No need to do that." Toven clapped him on the back. "We are not big on protocol here, and until you came along, we were convinced that all gods were luminous. We didn't know that the glow signified nobility. I would like to keep things informal if you don't mind."

"As you wish." Dagor fought his instinct to dip his head again. "I'll be quick about it."

As it turned out, finding the clinic was more challenging than he'd thought. There were no signs indicating its location, and there was no one to ask since everyone was still in the dining hall.

When Dagor finally found it, he was surprised that the clinic wasn't deserted.

"How can I help you, Dagor?" a white-haired immortal asked with a curious gleam in his pale blue eyes.

"Who are you?"

"Forgive me." The guy inclined his head. "My name is Merlin, and I'm one of the clan's three physicians."

Oh well, at least the guy would know why Dagor needed what he came for. Since he couldn't contract or transmit sexually transmitted diseases, and he couldn't get anyone pregnant either because chances of that were so low that they were negligible, a god had no use for condoms unless he needed to avoid inducing a Dormant's transition.

"I was told that I could find condoms in the clinic."

The doctor frowned. "What for?"

Apparently, he didn't know. Perhaps Frankie, being a potential Dormant, was only known to some.

"I was told that using a physical barrier was the only way to prevent a Dormant from transitioning before she was ready."

"Ah." Merlin's eyes widened. "Now, that makes perfect sense." He opened a drawer and pulled out two boxes of condoms. "Have you ever used them before?"

Dagor shook his head.

"Perhaps you need to practice first on a banana." Seeing Dagor's mortified expression, Merlin chuckled. "Just kidding. There are instructions inside. Read them before you attempt it or let the lady do it. She might have more experience than you in rolling one on."

Dagor preferred to think about something other than how Frankie might have acquired that skill.

The thought was odd, and her having other partners shouldn't bother him. She wasn't his, and he didn't plan on her ever becoming his, so why the human-style possessiveness?

"Thank you." He tried to flatten the boxes to fit in his tuxedo pockets.

"Hold on." The doctor pushed to his feet, walked over to one of the cabinets, and opened it. "I have a little gift for you and your lady." He pulled out a gift bag and handed it to him. "The boxes should fit in there."

Peering into the bag, Dagor saw a small box of a famous chocolate brand. "Does chocolate have a therapeutic effect on immortals?"

"In a way, it does." Merlin chuckled. "I'm the clan's fertility specialist. The elixirs I produce don't taste good, so I give them out along with the chocolates to help the medicine go down." He ended with a wink. "One of the biggest problems with patient care is ensuring compliance. If the couples I treat don't drink the potions because they taste bad, then how will they conceive?"

"Do your potions really work?" Dagor pulled out the chocolate box, stuffed the two condom boxes inside the bag, and then put the chocolates on top.

The doctor shrugged. "So far, I’ve had only one success, and time will tell if that was a fluke. I hope it wasn't."

Frankie

"Where is Doug? I mean, Dagor?" Frankie asked as Toven returned without him.

What had the god told Dagor to scare him off?
