Did she inherit any traits from her grandfather?Aria asked.

I do not know. I have only spent about an hour with her, and she did not disclose her abilities. Her power is palpable, though, so I do not doubt she inherited at least some of his strength. But that is where the resemblance ends. Annani is benevolent, leading her clan of immortals with wisdom and care. They call her Clan Mother, and they all love and respect her.

When Aria did not respond for a long moment, Aru asked, are you there?

Yes. Forgive me, brother. A thousand thoughts are going through my mind while I try to memorize what you have told me word for word. Did you find out how big the clan is?

He had expected that question and knew that his sister, the oracle, and the queen would all think that leading a small clan did not equate to leading the galaxy. The clan is only several hundred people strong, but they have done a lot of good for humans throughout the millennia since the other gods were eliminated, and they did it while fighting their archenemy, who has a stronger army of immortals and whose goals are opposite to theirs. Where Annani and her people want humans to become an enlightened global society that promotes equal opportunity for all and meets all the basic needs of Earth's citizens, their enemy wants humans to remain dumb, backward, and in-fighting so he can easily subjugate it.

Over the past two weeks, Aru had conducted many conversations with Kian about the clan's history, what it had achieved, and its plans for the future. He had only recently learned that Kian was not the head of the clan but only the regent for his mother, leading the American arm of it. His sister Sari fulfilled a similar role in Europe.

I will do my best to relay everything you've told me to the Supreme. I hope she will understand the details when she sees the queen and tells her the good news.

Can't you go with her?Aru asked. You are her scribe. It will not look suspicious.

It will. Aria sighed. The queen and the Supreme have been meeting for thousands of years in seclusion. It is always just the two of them with no witnesses. We cannot change the tradition without arousing suspicion.

Dagor

Dagor had stayed awake most of the night, listening to Frankie breathe, monitoring her heartbeat, and thinking about his future.

She had exceeded his expectations in every way. Even though he'd been more careful and reserved with her than with most of the human females he'd been with, it had been one of the best nights of his life, and it hadn't been only about the sex.

He'd had fun with Frankie, and he'd felt something for her that he hadn't felt in a very long time.

He wanted more with her.

When Dagor was a young god, barely of the age of consent, he'd fallen in love with a young goddess who'd lived nearby. They had been together for nearly a full Anumati year, and then she had left to serve on one of the colonies, and he'd been drafted to the service. For a while, they had kept in touch, but slowly they had drifted apart. There was no point in keeping the flame going when there was no chance for them to be together.

In time, the love he'd felt for her had dimmed until it faded completely. He'd been lucky that Lilat hadn't been his fated mate or the separation would have devastated them both.

Being fated mates could have added gravitas to their request to be stationed together. Still, it was difficult to prove the claim, and commoners like them were rarely accommodated, even in extreme cases.

Turning onto his side, Dagor gazed at Frankie's sleeping face.

She was a lighthearted girl, easy to smile and laugh, and generous with her body and her feelings. It was a shame that they wouldn't see each other after the cruise.

He was going to Tibet, and she was going to the immortals' village to start her dream job as a beta tester for the Perfect Match adventures.

Perhaps he could convince Aru not to leave immediately, so he could try out one of those adventures with Frankie. He was curious about the technology and how much of the gods' know-how had gone into it.

He would love to spend time in their headquarters and work with their programmers. He had never received an official education in the subject. Still, he'd taught himself much about Earth's tech from watching instructional videos.

Frankie's eyes suddenly popped open, and a smile spread over her face. "You stayed."

"Of course. I told you I would. I was watching over you."

"The entire night?"

He nodded. "Gods don't need as much sleep as humans. I can catch up on some shuteye later. How do you feel?"

"I feel great." She scooted closer and tucked herself into him. "I have my own guardian angel." She kissed the underside of his jaw. "So, what's the plan for today?"

"Breakfast." He put his hand on her stomach. "Your belly started rumbling about an hour ago. I was sure it would wake you up."

"I had wonderful dreams. I didn't want to wake up." She closed her eyes. "I’m having a hard time deciding between staying awake to be with you and going back to sleep so I can dream some more."

Smoothing a hand over her naked back, he reached her buttock and gave it a gentle squeeze. "We can get up, have a cup of coffee, grab something to eat, and get back in bed." He was already hardening, and since she was pressed against him, she was feeling it.
