“Who are you with, son?” his dad asks, taking a few more steps in our direction.

Kohen rushes me to the car and kisses me gently on the lips. “I’ll see you in two weeks, Angel, be good.” He shuts the door before I can say or do anything else. I’m left confused. Is he fucking embarrassed of me? That was weird. Right? I turn on my car and watch as he joins his dad leading him back to their car. His dad takes one last look in my direction before getting in the car and taking off. What the hell just happened? I pull my phone out of my purse and text him. There's no way I can just let that shit go.

Me: that was fucking weird

Kohen: I know, I’m sorry. My dad’s a dick. I don’t want you to meet him and think differently of me

Me: I would never do that

Kohen: I’m sorry, but while we’re together I’ll be MIA.

Kohen: just know I miss you, Angel, even when I don’t respond, every time you think of me know I’m thinking of you too.

Kohen: and that tight pussy, and the way it fits perfectly around my cock. ;)

Me: K

Kohen: don’t be like that

Me: like what? I’m tired AF, going home to sleep. Night.

Kohen: okay, night.

I don’t respond. I put my car in drive and head home. I have to get some sleep before the party tonight. Any ounce of guilt I felt about accepting Xzavien’s invite just got washed away with Kohen's red flag behavior.

KOHEN

Iwake up as we approach the airport and my dad is on the phone, unleashing his wrath on the person at the other end of it. Glad it isn’t me. I pull my phone from my backpack and check for any messages from Alex. Nothing. I get on Instagram and see all the posts about a party happening later tonight. I wonder if she’s going. I check the time and it’s four pm, so I decide to text her.

Me: Hey angel, pulling into the airport, it will probably be a while before I can text you again.

I wait a minute and then notice it says her phone is ondo not disturb. What the fuck? I check the GPS I had installed on her car and she’s at the mall. Not unusual since her and Cora love to shop. I shove my phone in my pocket, she probably has her phone ondo not disturbto focus on her time with Cora. I love the loyalty they have in their friendship. That's one of my favorite things about Alex, too. She’s selfless. If Cora needs her, she drops everything to be there. X and I used to be like that, and then something, somewhere along the way it all changed. I can’t trust him like I used to be able to. I've caught him in a few lies and honesty is everything to me. We’ve always been competitive but in the last couple of years he has taken it too far, crossing boundaries and being disrespectful. It sucks but it is what it is.

My attention turns to my dad as he hangs up the phone. “Well, all the flights have been grounded due to weather.” Anger radiates from his body.

“It's sunny, though. Can’t we take the jet?” I feign annoyance but really, I am kind of glad. I want to get home to my girl.

“No son, we can’t. There is a lot of wind and they see some possible tornado action.”

“That fucking sucks.” I try and sound disappointed but really, I’m not. I can’t wait to surprise Alex.

“We can grab a hotel, and just enjoy a couple days away. You okay with that, son?”

“Actually, if it’s okay with you, I’d like to head back home and get some more training in for the next meet.” He seems pleased with that and relief floods my system. I never know how he will react, his emotions are unpredictable. That must be where I get it from.

“That's an incredible idea, Kohen. Let me get you a rental car. I’m going to go ahead and stay here.”

Thank fuck. I don’t want to ride in the car back with him. I love my father because I have to, but I know the monster he is. Judgmental, angry, stubborn, cold.

“Thanks, Dad. Camille won’t want you home?” Camille is his current girlfriend. She seems nice but I stopped getting to know his flavor of the week a long time ago. Granted she’s been around a lot longer than most. I mostly got tired of them trying to fuck me while he was away. That's why I bought my house- I allow who I want there, no surprises.

“No, she is in Italy right now visiting her parents.” His phone rings, interrupting our conversation. “Your car is here, son.” The way he calls mesonalways makes me cringe. It isn’t out of pride or love but something calculated and factual. Iamhis son.

I look out the window and see a black Dodge Charger. It’s a black-on-black hellcat and I’m obsessed. “Consider it a gift,” he says, clearing his throat.

“A gift? For what?” I ask, confused.
