“She just said she chooses me over the family!”

“Bring me in? In where? Mark?” I say in English.

The guy with the gun switches to Gaelic.“Fuck, she speaks Russian?”

“I didn’t know that.”Mark says quickly, also switching to Gaelic.“See? We have to tell her, she’s seen too much now.”

All the blood rushes from me. “Seen too much? You, You’re…”

Mark moves out of his chair and kneels in front of me. So, he was never even tied up? I start to throw up, but my stomach is empty. I swallow it back down.

“Ellie, sweetheart, listen.” Mark pleads, sounding almost distraught.

The guy in front of us chuckles. “You speak Gaelic too? Who the fuck is this girl?”

Mark glances up at him with venom. “Watch how you speak about my wife, Gailo.”He turns back to me and takes a pocketknife and cuts the binding on my wrists. This isn’t real. We weren’t prisoners. Was the gun shot real?

“Oh man, we are so fucked.” The other guy says before leaving the room. He barges out with the door left wide open behind him.

Mark grabs my hands.“Ellie, mi esposa, mi reina, por favor, tienes que escucharme.” Ellie, my wife, my queen, please, you have to listen to me.

That.

That was flawless Spanish.I don’t realize I’ve been mutteringno, no, noover and over again under my breath. I pull my hands out of his. “Who, who are you? What are you? Tell me the truth. You’re a Fed.”

He reaches out for me, but then drops his hands in defeat. “No, sweetheart. It’s much, much worse than that.”

CHAPTER 33

Eleanna

“Worse? Worse than being a spy?”

“Yes. And I’ll tell you everything, I promise, but I want to get you cleaned up, get your head checked.” He reaches out a hand to me.

“No! I’m not going anywhere with you! Get your hands off me.”

His earnest expression vanishes. “Sorry, but, no.” Then he grabs me, flipping me up into his arms before I can fight back. He’s cradling me tight, so it’s hard for me to try and push away. His grip under my legs tightens as I try to move. “Stop it, Eleanna, you’ll hurt your arm or make your head worse.”

I scream out a frustrated growl, angry that he’s right. I did make all the pain worse. I finally look at my surroundings.

We’re walking down a cold, dark hallway. We could be anywhere, some government facility, an abandoned factory. What if the other guy decides to kill me? Shit! I have no idea what to do to protect myself in this situation. I can’t fight, I can barely fire a gun.

“Hey,” Mark stops in front of a door. “You’re safe. I know you won’t believe anything I say right now, but trust me that I will not let anything happen to you, or let anyone touch you.”

“You told that guy to shoot me!”

“Fuck. That’s right I did. And just how many languages do you speak, wife?”

“Ninguno para ti, gilipollas!” None to you, asshole!I spit out in Spanish.

He replies,“Fóllame, me encanta cuando hablas español.” Fuck me, I love it when you speak Spanish.

I’m about to reply when I realize we’re in what looks like a modern war room from a sci-fi movie. A million screens, equipment, laptops, and weapons. So many weapons in lit cases like jewels. But the air leaves my lungs completely when he pushes through the door on the other end and we enter his office.

His office.

In our house.
