Okay, so maybe this plan was backfiring.

We wouldn’t get anywhere if Vitri needed to fuck like he did last night several times a day.As much as it felt fucking incredible, I’m hoping he had enough willpower to keep himself controlled until we reached camp every night at the very least.Another day and we should be nearing the ocean, then it would be maybe one more day to move along the coast until we were parallel with the base of the mountains.

But between our descent to the beach and the mountains, our task would be locating the pod.Erica seemed sure she had seen one move toward the ocean, but her certainty had waned each time we discussed it, and I understood her hesitancy.

I’d touched her arm.“I’m not going to hold you personally responsible if the pod isn’texactlywhere you suspect it would be.”She’d bitten her lip, staring out toward the ocean as if hoping for a glimpse of it, so I continued, “We were all in a panic, and the fact you had managed to keep track of the pods at all was better than I had done.”

I’d walk this island for as long as it took to find the others.

Vitri groaned again, wrapped his arm tighter around me, and crushed me against his chest.I squirmed against his hold.“Hey,” I cried and slapped his arm gently. When he didn’t stir, I tried again, louder and harder, and he jolted awake.

“Are you okay?”His tone was laced with concern, and I was relieved but also a bit disappointed the animalistic growls had subsided.

“I’m fine.”He buried his face in the crook of my neck, inhaling deeply before he huffed out a contented breath that left me squirming at the tickling sensation against my neck.“Let me go, I need to get up.”

He did so reluctantly and stood after I did, stretching his long arms toward the sky and rumbling out a loud groan which ended in a growl.Glancing down, he smirked and searched for his discarded loin cloth.

After I’d been to the bathroom, dressed, and had some water, I picked up some leftover food from the previous night and handed a piece to Vitri.“How are you feeling?”

He pressed his lips together, looking uncertain.“Better, my mind is clearer.”His gaze wandered my body, and a shudder worked its way down his spine.“But the urges are still there.I can only hope they won’t get stronger throughout the day until I lose control again.”

It was my turn to smirk.“That wouldn’t be so bad.We can always satiate you again tonight.”

A jumble of emotions played across his face.“Are you sore?”

My thighs clenched together at his words, and he noticed the movement, frowning.“A little bit, but I’m okay. It’s more a dull ache.”I held up my hand when he went to protest.“But it’s a good ache… trust me.”

Vitri shook his head.“I should be in better control than this.I’m sorry.”

“You admitted that you’ve not had this reaction before. So it might take you a bit to figure out how to control it.That’s okay… we’ll figure it out together.”

He lunged at me, scooped me up in his arms, and spun me.When he stopped, his breath was hot against my ear, and I could feel the smile curling his lips.“And in the meantime, I can fuck you until you come around my cock.Every.Single.Night.”

I shuddered and was unable to contain the squeak that escaped my lips.Vitri looked much too pleased with himself as a flush crept across my cheeks. When he placed me back on my feet, I frowned and huffed at him, hoping my cheeks weren’t quite as red as they felt, the heat practically burning from me.

“Let’s get moving,” I said, clearing my throat as Vitri continued to grin at me.

Smug asshole.

We collected our water bags and spears and started walking.

Chapter Twenty-Two

VITRI

As we walked, Tori asked again about the planet and animal species we encountered, wanting to know which were introduced, which were native, and which females were brought to the planet with the same fate as her.If we passed a species, I identified as kidnapped from their home planet, and if they were alone, Tori fretted, and I wasn’t able to hold the truth from her.

“When you showed me the asha, there were four of them.”I hummed but didn’t respond, resuming my pace as Tori trotted to keep up.“And me and the girls, there are four of us.”When I still didn’t respond, she grabbed my hand and held it as we walked.“So that species we just passed…”

“Furnia.”The yellowish tinge to their skin would still be visible if I turned and looked, two of their four arms clinging to the tree trunks as if ready to fling themselves into action and run.

“Right,” Tori said, clearly not letting me off the hook with this one.“There were only two, and another species we saw earlier today was alone.Where are the others?”

Grinding my teeth, I tried not to look at her because I didn’t want to see her face when I told her the ugly truth, unable to lie to her.“The Ghaal might have gotten to them.”

Tori stopped dead.I took another two steps before I also stopped and turned to face her.“Might?”

“Sometimes we don’t get to them in time, Tori.”I ran my hands down my face, not wanting to relive the reminders of all the species I had failed to save.“Some of them we can’t communicate with as we can’t get close enough to learn their language.”She took a few steps to come level with me and ran her small palm down my arm as I whispered, “We can’t save them all.”
