Ilk and I had shared brief thoughts about the need for the Ghaal’s reign to end.Maybe now was the time, after all.Moving around for weeks on end, hoping to shake them from our tail wasn’t the right move, not this time.Misha had been captured and tagged, and if it weren’t for a lone Ghaal with a conscience, Erica would still be a prisoner.

This needed to end.

We’d need weapons and a plan.

Guilt burned in the pit of my stomach that it took Tori and the appearance of the human females to motivate us to take action. We didn’t want violence, but being passive to the violence the Ghaal was committing was just as bad.We did our best to keep species away from the colony, but as I told Tori, we couldn’t save them all.

Maybe it’s time we saved everyone once and for all.

If one species had to be wiped out to save many, then wasn’t that for the greater good?I felt I needed Ilk’s input. He was more levelheaded, more of a leader, and hopefully less driven by these emotions we’ve recently rekindled.Sahcor’s thoughts would help too, but that could wait until we were reunited at Ilk’s.Right now, he needed to calm and look after Misha.

Although with the way Ilk looked at Erica, maybe he wasn’t so levelheaded anymore.Maybe he was in as deep as I was.

We’d been moving for days as Ilk and Erica would have been.Had they already found the fourth female who landed with Tori, Erica, and Misha?Maybe itwastime for us to come together.Waiting longer served no further purpose.Although the selfish part of me wanted to snatch up Tori, run all the way back to the forest, and keep her with me.

I crushed Tori against me, needing to feel her body close to mine.

Because only she could drown out the unfamiliar thoughts of violence that circled my mind.

“When all this is over, what do we do?”

Tori was looking at me earnestly as she spoke. It always caught me off guard when she was like this—the feisty, always-fighting Tori I met becoming unsure of herself.

“What do you want to do?”

Her lip lifted almost into a smirk before sinking back into her worried expression. We’d begun our journey back to Ilk’s and were moving slower than we otherwise would, giving Sahcor and Misha time to catch up with us.

“Whatever we want, right?”Tori said.

“Do you think you’ll want to live with your friends or me?”

Tori paused, thoughtful for a moment, and I tried not to let concern flood me.Just because she was taking a moment to answer didn’t mean she was going to leave me the first chance she got to live with her species.“I’m not sure…” she said finally, looking up at me, “… but we’ll figure that bit out.Maybe we can all live together?I don’t know.As long as I’m with you, I’ll be happy.”I was about to respond when she pulled a face, scrunching up her features and sticking out her tongue.“Ugh, that felt weird to say.Much too romantic for me.”

I leaned toward her, whispering, “Would it help if I told you I wanted only to fuck you for the rest of my days?”

Tori squirmed as a shiver ran down her spine.“It helps.”

“Good,” I growled, squeezing her hand. The moment we knew Misha was safe, thesecondshe and Sahcor were back with us, I would take Tori off to the side. We’d find a spot to be alone all night, and even that wouldn’t be enough.

I’d never get enough of her.But she was mine now, and it was more than I’d thought possible from the day I split from my brothers.

To find a mate made for me.

Epilogue

TORI

The complete journey to Ilk’s cave would take two days as we had to backtrack the way we had come.Following the beach further toward the base of the mountains and then heading upward would be a mistake as that would put us right in line with the Ghaal colony. The conversation had turned to Vitri’s brothers’ behavior.I couldn’t let go of the fact that my introductions to both of his brothers so far—Ilk and Sahcor—had involved them attacking me.

Honestly,what the fuck, right?

Vitri chuckled when I complained about this, pulled me close to him, and explained why I should cut his brothers some slack.“My mate, remember how I explained to you that your presence here stirred up a part of me I had long forgotten?”

“Yes, but—”

Vitri smiled, placing a large, velvety finger against my lips before using his thumb in an attempt to smooth the frown from my face.“Let me explain.”
