Er, meaning they would be safe from the megagull until takeoff. With the shuttle so close to the sunny entrance of the storage building, they could get on when the batteries were charged enough. No need to hide aboard from as early as now and, striving to avoid getting chomped down on, to attempt a departure without having disconnected the charger first. That was a risky maneuver Miya might be able to pull off but might as well kill them in a big kaboom.

Speaking of risk… “Just to be on the safe side, I’ll check for nightfall in the next 48 hours.”

“No need, Miya. We will be long gone by then.”

“Don’t tempt the fates,” she muttered while she played with the map some more. “Whoa, there will be daylight for one more month.”

“Night on Xera falls once every two months?”

“Yup, more or less.”

That explained why the colonists hadn’t met their doom until after a couple of months on Xera. And whoever had checked the planet for potential colonization might not have stayed long enough to see what happened when darkness fell.

Luckily, she and Therak weren’t going to stay that long either.

“Excellent, Miya.” He sounded pleased, his hand giving the nape of her neck a gentle squeeze. “Now, let us–”

“Just one more check, Therak. Since I’m forever the fatalist…”

He leaned over her, the brush of his body against her back giving her the tingles. “What is this?”

“A list of planetary events observed or forecast by the colonists.”

“Anything of concern?’’

“Let’s see… I'll check for a period of 30 days... No solar eclipse forecast.” Miya looked to the side and up to grin at him. “We’re good, Therak! At least for 30 days, I mean.”

His reply came in the form of a smile. “Fatalist.”

Her grin grew to epic proportions. Seeing Therak smile, and for longer than an eye blink, was a stunning sight. It heated her blood and made her want to kiss him.

Somehow Miya stopped herself, but she couldn’t make any promises for during the sexy shower time.

Especially after Therak ran his darkening gaze over her and said with a huskier voice, “Time to bathe.”

Worth It

At last. After a safety check of the residential building right next to the station, Miya and Therak were finally inside a shower room together.

And she suddenly found herself nervous. Therak being so mysterious might be one of the reasons she had the hots for him, but right now she really wanted to know what his intentions were. He had certainly given her some mixed signals. It would be quite suck-y if instead of the sexy time she was expecting, he actually planned a splish-splash-thank-you-for-the-soap-ma’am.

Since the one-story building was like a dormitory for tens of colonists, the shower room had several shower cubicles. What if by ‘bathing together’ Therak had actually meant showering in separate cubicles that shared a partition? There would be no playful washing of those firm pecs of his then. No watching the suds slide down his abs. No lathering of what always jutted proud and erect between his powerful thighs. No exploring with her hands and tongue–

“Undergarments off, Miya.”

A nervous giggle escaped her at his serious tone and unreadable expression. “You won’t… take them off yourself? Like you did with my jumpsuit?”

“Only if it takes you too much time to strip and get under the shower.”

“Oh… And why the hurry? You… have plans for the hours until takeoff?”

His eyes swirled with black as he looked into hers. “Yes.”

“Ohh… Can you… um… share those with me?”

“First we need to get clean,” he said matter-of-factly.
