“He must have hoped I wouldn’t notice, at least not until the target had been eliminated. He was desperate for me to take the job, because the target was too well guarded for another assassin to succeed.”

“Did you confront your boss about it?”

“I didn’t get the chance. I was suddenly chased by mercs and on the authorities’ wanted list for assassinations I had and hadn’t committed.”

“That Corco-ass!”

A smile tugged at the corners of Therak’s lips. “Corco-ass must have discovered I had hacked into his database and downloaded files. I had looked for information on why he wanted that innocent person killed so badly.”

“Ah, so that was why the mercs were planning to interrogate you! They wanted to know what you had done with the files! Maybe also if you had shared with someone the info on your boss’ shady dealings.” Miya’s eyes widened. “Wait, does that make me a target too? I don’t actually know anything, but they won’t care, will they? When the next wave of baddies after you discover there is a survivor from the military ship, they’ll–”

Therak put a finger on her lips, his expression visibly hardening. “No one will come after you, Miya. I will make sure of it.”

“How? You’re just one man, Therak. And you have to lay low to save yourself–”

Suddenly, she was on her back, his powerful body caging hers underneath.

“Time for my question, Miya,” he spoke softly, forehead resting on hers.

“Uhh…” And she had thought herself bad at changing topics smoothly. “Okay?”

He settled more comfortably between her legs, keeping his weight off her by resting on his elbows on either side of her. His warm breath danced across her lips as he asked, “What will you do when you go back to your space station?”

“IfI survive Xera, I guess I will... resume working?”

“And your hobbies? What do you like doing when not piloting?”

That was a repeat of the question she had asked Therak out in the desert. Unlike him, Miya needed no time to think over the answer. “Traveling. I travel for work but mostly to one and the same planets and space stations. I enjoy exploring new places and cultures, particularly well-terraformed worlds where no unknown dangers remain. When I retire, I plan on touring all the systems. Might stay away from System 6, though.”

“Excellent.”

“Huh?”

Instead of reply, Therak began nibbling on her ear.

Miya gasped in pleasant surprise. She had not seen that coming.

Nor did she see his hands anywhere near the zipper of her jumpsuit, and yet it was sliding down. Slowly but surely.

“I will explore you now, Miya.” He kissed the side of her neck, right over her pulse.

“You will?”

“You’re still distracted.” He nipped at the sensitive skin there. “Needy.”

“Uh-huh...”

His lips slid further down. “Can’t have you piloting in this state.”

“Absolutely not... Better do… ah…. something about it–Ahh!”

He was tracing a path of burning kisses down her chest, and it was hard to do anything but gasp and moan. And when the fully unzipped jumpsuit left her breasts exposed to Therak’s gaze? Miya shivered in delight at the look in his eyes. Such appreciation, such hunger…

“So intriguing. Only two.”

Okay, that gave Miya the pause. “How many boobs do females of your kind have?”

“Three. I’ve had alien partners with either four or six.”
