“I want you to be my maid of honor. I’m getting married.” She squealed.

I couldn’t believe it. “I’m so happy for you.” I wrapped her in another hug.

The pit in my gut could just fuck off now. I would not ruin my sister’s wonderful news because I hated that I was still single.

Epilogue 2

One Year Later

Sawyer

I’d been in a tattoo chair enough times over the years that the sounds and sensations didn’t faze me. I was a bit concerned about sitting for someone I didn’t know.

Hudson assured me if I was in Vegas, this was the best place to go, and unlike a year ago when he sent me to Wendover, we were on friendly terms now. I trusted him.

I was saying that more and more these days, and it was odd, but it was nice.

Gage sat next to me while the guy with the gun laid fresh ink over my Scorpions tattoo. For the last few hours, Evie had been in a meeting with people from the combat robot TV show, and we were killing time until she was done.

She had enough clients in the business now that they’d all recommended she be on site during the shooting of the next season. When we picked her up in a little while, she’d have the contract, and we’d be here again in a couple of months, this time working from a tent on The Strip.

Evie tried to remind us this morning that she didn’t have the contract yet, but Gage and I both knew she was going to get it.

“You’re all done.” The guy put down his gun, wiped away the last of the excess ink, and handed me a hand mirror to get a better view of the work.

It was a heart with a Celtic trinity knot inside it. I had probably butchered the meaning, but the concept of eternity—the intertwining of the past, present, and future—and also recognizing what I had with Evie and Gage, was the perfect new image as far as I was concerned.

Plus, it looked way cooler than the Scorpions logo ever had.

The artist wrapped my upper bicep in plastic while I thanked him, and Gage and I were on our way.

We were a couple of miles off The Strip, where things looked like any other Southwestern town, aside from the slot machines in every other business. We drove a wide circle around the touristy parts of the city, to return to where Evie was in her meeting.

Gage and I still gave each other grief as often as not, but it was fun and lighthearted now. The jabs were never cruel, and it made for some intense sex. I wouldn’t trade what I had with him for anything.

Evie was waiting outside when we pulled up at the front curb. The building behind her was deceptively simple—stucco, a few windows, a basic etching on the door. One wouldn’t know unless they were looking that this place housed the secondary headquarters for such a massive sport.

She looked both adorable and sexy-fucking-in-charge, in a button down white shirt, with a tie, suspenders, and pin-striped trousers. Aubrey had picked the outfit for her. Said it conveyed power and presence, and that Evie would rule the room in it.

Logic I couldn’t argue with.

Evie didn’t look up from her seated, head-bowed position as we approached.

“She looks unhappy.” Gage’s words echoed what I saw with my own two eyes.

I didn’t want to consider the possibility she hadn’t gotten this. I couldn’t and wouldn’t believe it. Evie was the best.

Her furrowed brow and what little I could see of her expression looked like a scowl.

She didn’t move as we approached. Didn’t look up until Gage said, “Evie?”

As she finally gave us her attention, I saw the twitch of her lips. If I’d blinked, I would’ve missed it. She was fighting a smile.

Okay, I’d play along. “How’d it go?” I kept my voice kind and cautious.

Her sigh landed heavily. “I don’t know.”

“Are you all right?” Gage was concerned.
