He hadn’t noticed yet that she was fucking with us. I’d bet on it.

Evie let out an exaggerated huff. “I don’t know.”

“Do you want to talk about it?” Gage asked.

“Not here.” Evie looked like it took immense effort to push to her feet.

This was too silly, and God help me if I was wrong, but I wasn’t. “She doesn’t need to talk. She needs a thick dick in her mouth and to fuck this off.”

Evie met my gaze, eyebrows raised. “You’re an asshole.”

“And you’re making Gage feel bad. He believes you.”

“I— Oh.” Gage twisted his mouth in understanding.

Evie’s grin finally cracked through. “I’m sorry, Gage. You were both supposed to fall for it.”

I pulled her closer to us. “Truth now.”

“I got the contract.” Her grin was brighter than the Vegas summer sun.

Joy bloomed inside me, on her behalf, and I crushed my mouth to hers, swallowing her playful laugh. “I knew you would,” I murmured against her lips.

Gage wrapped an arm around Evie’s waist and pulled her to him. “Why does he get kisses first?”

“I figured it out first.” Duh.

“Because he’s a grabby bozo.” Evie rose on her tiptoes, draped her arms around Gage’s neck, and kissed him as she rubbed her whole body against his.

I liked watching them almost as much as being with one or both of them.

This was perfect. It didn’t replace what I’d had with Tony, it was the next album in my life. A new volume filled with incredible new songs, and the perfect people to live the entire experience with.

Gage

Okay, so I was the gullible guy who fell for Evie’s trick, but I didn’t care. I was just happy she had this. She deserved it. She’d earned every single bit of this opportunity and more.

Besides, I had a secret of my own. “We should celebrate.”

“Where?” Evie asked.

“It’s a surprise.” A good one. One I’d struggled to keep for the last few weeks. I still had no idea how they hadn’t found out yet.

Sawyer studied me with suspicion. “You do surprises?”

“I kept your Christmas present a surprise.” I’d had Brooke sculpt him a new hood ornament, as the finishing touch for his finally-restored car.

Sawyer nodded. “Fair point.”

“Give us a hint.” Evie took both our hands and tugged us toward my SUV.

I yanked her back. We weren’t ready to leave yet. “I met a guy last time I was here for that restaurant supplies trade show.”

Sawyer had helped me remodel the banquet room in my grill. He had an idea for what was both functional and modern stylish, and he knew a lot of people who could get construction supplies for cheap.

And he was still watching me suspiciously. “So you bought… another oven? That’s not a surprise for us.”

“You got me scrap metal, didn’t you?” Evie sounded more excited. “How’d you know?”
