She pulled away enough to show me her pout.

Evie pouting? Fucking adorable. Not fair, but very cute.

“You’re right.” Her tone was light, and she stepped away enough to put some space between us. “Pin me to the wall and fuck me later.”

I definitely would. And now I had a hard-on.

Meeting her deadline was important, though. She may have raised the funds to get out of immediate danger, but she needed to keep going long-term, and this would provide that for her.

We headed into her work room and got to it. For the next few hours, the conversation flowed easily. Then again, it always did when we both let our defenses down. She teased me a few times about staring at her ass instead of getting things done, and I had no reason to deny it.

She was sitting on a high stool with her back to the door, making some refinements to her blueprints, when Gage walked in. He had a drink holder with three iced coffees, but she was focused on her task and didn’t look up.

He pressed into her back, and she let out a light eep as she straightened into him. He trailed his nose along her neck as she rested more of her weight against him. He reached around her to hand her a coffee, and kissed her on the cheek.

The exchange left me conflicted. Turned on. Jealous. In awe of how good they were together. Wanting.

I cleared my throat.

Gage straightened and looked at me. “Jealous?”

I raised my eyebrows. Yes.

He crossed the distance between us. “I didn’t forget about you.” He handed me one of the drinks.

As I reached for it, he leaned in and kissed me on the lips instead. I grunted in surprise. That felt good too. I smirked against his kiss and stole my coffee. “I see why she likes you,” I said.

Gage leaned his mouth near my ear. “The big dick doesn’t hurt either.” His voice was a stage whisper.

“It hurts a little. That’s part of why I like it.” Evie sucked on her straw, a look of deceptive innocence on her face.

This was good. I could get used to it. To spending this kind of time with them.

Gage settled in and started on his checklist as well. All three of us were quiet as we focused.

Evie handed off her changes to me, so I could work on the remote, and she shifted her attention to some financials.

For a while, the only sounds in the room were metal scraping metal, and Evie’s fingers clacking on her keyboard.

I shifted my attention to testing radio connectivity between the wheels and the remote.

“You unbelievable fucking asshole.” Evie’s angry voice shattered my concentration.

I looked up to see her glaring at me with a venom that rivaled that first day I walked in here, and she realized who I was.

No. This was worse.

“What did I do?” I asked.

Evie

Today was a good day.

That warm everything is good feeling lingered from yesterday, mingling with the conversation with Sawyer this morning, and culminating in an incredible afternoon with him and Gage.

Sure, we were just working, but it felt right.
