The poison is in his whiskey which is in my hand. I stalk toward him with two glasses, passing him one.

“What’s this?”

“A toast of sorts,” I tell him. He shouldn’t take, but he does. Stupid man. Or maybe he thinks I wouldn’t do anything at this gala. That’s a mistake on his part.

“What are we toasting?” He asks clearly not understanding me.

“New ventures. Isn’t that what we’re always after?”

“And why aren’t you toasting with your father?” I chuckle and take a drink of my whiskey.

“You’ve met the man, yes?” Mosco chuckles and nods his idiotic head in agreement. I don’t understand why I’m so underestimated in this world. Why people look at me as a child just because I’m still in school when in fact, I’m one of the deadliest men out there.

“I’ll toast to that,” he says raising his glass to me as I do the same. I watch him take down the full glass before nodding toward the wall. Mosco takes the hint and follows me over.

“My father is plotting against you. I don’t know why, but I was clearly intrigued since he asked me to do his bidding,” I tell him. His eyes jerk to mine and I can see the unsureness in them. He should be unsure of me. He quickly glances around before dragging his gaze back to meet mine.

“What do you mean?”

“I was told that you were moving product between the Columbians and the Bosco’s.” He chuckles and shakes his head.

“Your father has that all wrong as usual.”

“Which part?” I ask cocking my head to the side to study the man. A few more minutes and the effects of the drugs will kick in.

“Bosco has nothing to do with that. He’s running his own load of shit and using his family as a pawn,” he hisses.

“In what way?” Now I’m curious. I need to know more because this is news to me. Mosco opens his mouth to say more but he can’t. He reaches up, clawing at his throat as the drugs begin to work.

“Sadly for you, I don’t believe a word. Run now. Try to get help.” With my teeth gritted painfully, I shove him away from me. He stumbles, nearly falling on his way, but as he gags and gasps for air I see her. Eva sees me. She saw what I did to him or at least she thinks she did. Her eyes are wide, her lips parted. I finish my drink as people rush around the room in a panic now that Mosco has fallen to the floor, fallen to his death. And yet she still watches me, curiosity and disgust mixing in those dark orbs. I nod my head and set my glass on the closest table before offering her a small smile and walking toward the door. I don’t need to be here any longer.

As soon as I step out, a hand wraps around my wrist causing me to stop. There’s a burn that works it’s way up my arm that I’m unfamiliar with. When I look over my shoulder I see her.

“What are you doing?” I hiss in her direction.

“You killed him.”

“Did I?”

“You know you did!” That’s when I spin around and grab her neck, squeezing just slightly to make my point.

“Eva, you saw nothing. And if you did you already know what the mafia does. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise since you love the company of a Nash,” I growl at her. I was shocked when the name came up. I wasn’t expecting that seeing how the Nash syndicate was taken down many years ago. Whether or not they are trying to make a comeback or she is just in the wrong place at the wrong time, I know who she is. Nothing has pointed to anyone else in that syndicate being here in Chicago though. I have people on it.

“Stay away from me,” she whispers softly letting her hand fall from my wrist.

“I’d love to, but you’ve already captured my attention. I’m afraid leaving you alone isn’t going to be much of an option.” Her lips part and I can see the fear dancing in her gaze. Just what I wanted. I want her afraid.

“You will stay away from me if you know what’s good for you.”

“Such threats from a nobody, Eva. I’ll see you around.” With that I release her neck and turn, walking away. Oh I will be seeing her soon.

I’m in my car in no time speeding away as sirens approach. Calling my father on Bluetooth, he picks up quickly.

“Did you see the look on his face!” He laughs into the line.

“What do you know about the Nash’s?”
