“I fucked her. She figured it out and then I had to fire her ass.”

“You fucking fired Gwen? I never thought I’d see the day,” Vin chuckles.

“Well, it happened. Call Rico. We’re not as far from him as I thought we were,” I tell him as I pull out my own phone and check emails. I’m wondering how long it’s going to take before my father realizes I’m gone. Either way, I’m not going back.

The ride to meet Rico doesn’t take long and as he climbs into the back of the limo, my heart rate spikes. This is dangerous if I don’t play my cards right.

“Dominic Dameco. What do I owe the honor?” He asks, glancing at Vincent. I nod my head once and he exits the limo leaving just the two of us.

“I’m staying locally. I wanted to touch base with you on a few things.”

“Why are you local?”

“I’m going to kill my father.” Point blank and to the point. That’s how this meeting is going to go. I don’t have the time or energy to debate this with him, but as I see the sick smile curl his lips I know I won’t have to.

“And that has you here in Las Vegas?”

“I want to make a home here. I want the Dameco family to run legit when he’s gone. I’ve spoken to a few people and casinos are my first investment. From there I want to branch out, but nothing being done will fall on the illegal side of the law. I’ll leave that side to you,” I tell him with a smile.

“I see.”

“It wasn’t a decision I made lightly and to offset any cost to you I’d like to offer you ten percent on every venture I dabble in.” That’s the best he’s going to get out of me. He doesn’t even have to do anything, but sit back and relax collecting cash. Legal cash.

“That’s an offer I’d be stupid to refuse, but why here?” I see the look in his eyes and I know it doesn’t make sense to some, but this place has always held some sort of history for me.

“From the first time my father brought me here, I knew this would be where I settled. Chicago is to corrupt and I want nothing to do with that world after this. I want the Dameco name to mean something. Mean more than my father has given it.” Rico nods his head and runs a hand over his face before looking back at me.

“Then I’d say you have a deal. You have place set up already, I assume?”

“I do. Not far from here,” I admit. He nods his head and offers me his hand which I gladly take.

“Then I’d say welcome to Las Vegas. Anything you need don’t hesitate to ask but Dominic, if you don’t take care of your father and he causes problems for me here, the deal is off.”

“Fair enough.” We shake hands and he exits the car, Vincent climbing back in.

“We’re good I assume?”

“Yes, we are as long as my father doesn’t bring any of his drama to Rico.”

“Good. That’s good news, Dom.”

“Yes, very good. Our lives are going to get better now. From here on, things will be different.”

Evangeline

“What?” I ask completely shocked.

“You heard me. Your gown is in that bag. I want it on your sexy body and I want you ready in an hour.” I watch his face for some sign that this is a joke. It has to be a joke. There is no way he is serious about this! We’re eighteen years old! That’s all.

“No. I didn’t agree to this shit! I agreed to six months, Dom.” In a few short strides, he’s standing in front of me, his hands gripping my face.

“I changed the rules. This is the new rule. You will marry me, Eva.”

“No, I won’t. I’m not ready to get married. We’re eighteen, Dom!” My words mean nothing to him. Not a damn thing. Hell, I haven’t even graduated high school yet and he wants to get married? I don’t even know if I want to marry him. I don’t want this life and he knows it. It doesn’t matter how many times he told me things are going to be different, I don’t know that for sure.

“Don’t fight me on this, Evangeline. Just do as you’re told,” he growls making me shiver.
