I look down at my half-empty glass, down the rest in one gulp.

"I've gotta go, man." I put the glass down and pull myself up from the barstool. Steve doesn't argue. He sends me away with a nod.

He's seen me do a lot of stupid things, but fighting for what I want, that's not one of them.

I step out into the city, leaving the ambient noise of the bar behind. The streets are filled with life and color.

I start to walk towards Bailey's apartment, and I pass a street vendor selling roses. Impulsively, I buy one. A red one.

What am I doing?

Who fucking knows at this point. Life is such a god damn blur.

As the apartment building comes into view, I get a little nervous. I don't know how Bailey will react to me showing up at her house uninvited like this.

Is it creepy?

Am I being a creep right now?

You're fine, man. Relax.

I need to see her. I need to be honest with myself and with her.

I stand at her door, and knock a few times.

The door stays shut. A sinking feeling falls into my stomach. Maybe she's not at home.

I decide to knock once more, if she doesn’t answer this time, I'll take it as a sign and head home and admit that it wasn't meant to be.

I knock again, a little bit louder this time.

I wait.

I hear footsteps on the other side.

The door cracks open.

It's her.

She's standing there, looking surprised. She's even more beautiful than I remember.

"Logan? What are you doing here?"

"Oh, you know, I was just strolling around, minding my business when this persuasive rose vendor convinced me to save this poor, single red rose from a lonely fate. I mean, it's a tough world out there for a solo rose." I extend my hand, offering her the rose. "Turns out, the rose had a dream... it always wanted to meet the most beautiful woman in the city. Who am I to deny a rose its dream?"

She cracks a smile, an eyeroll following as she takes the rose from my hand. "You always have a way with words, don't you?"

I can't help but smile at her response, but I shake my head, my tone turning serious. "I can't stop thinking about you, Bailey."

Her expression softens, but she doesn't interrupt me.

"I can't ignore this... this thing between us. It's been driving me crazy. I miss you, Bailey."

Her eyes widen at my confession, but she stays silent, letting me get it all out.

"I want to clear the air, Bailey." I take a step toward her, closing the distance between us. "I want to make things right again. And if you're not interested, then I'll leave and never bother you again."

Her eyes search mine, and for a moment, I think she's going to turn me away. But then she leans in close, her hand reaching up to cup my cheek gently.
