“I don’t have anything to worry about, Natalie isn’t a part of it.”

“Did they not ask her?”

“Um, she didn’t want to be a part of it. I had to convince her to come tonight,”

“You had to what?” we all ask.

“She is okay when it is just us, but being around all of us makes her feel like an outsider. Her words, not mine,” he says.

“I know the women have asked her to join them several times, has she never gone?” Joseph inquires.

“No, she always has some excuse for not being able to go,” he says.

Anson looks around before asking, “Is it because of Skai?”

“No, they’ve asked her when Skai is there and even when she isn’t. She doesn’t want to go.”

“I am going to say what we all are probably thinking: we are big on family and always have been. How are you going to deal with a wife who doesn’t like or want to be around us?” Asher asks.

“First of all, no one said anything about her becoming my wife, but we can’t all marry women who will mesh with the family,” he justifies.

“Ash, you asked the question very nicely, but I don’t care about that type of shit. Dump her ass and figure the shit out with Skai,” Atlas says, making us choke on our laughter.

“Yeah, I don’t know what the fuck you're laughing at,” he says to me. “Get over your shit and marry Brook or leave her the fuck alone. And no, I don’t wanna hear shit about you telling her the deal upfront shit is different now, so man, the fuck up. If I can marry the daughter of the man who had our mother killed, you can get over your bullshit to do right by Brooklyn. Whatever is holding you back, let’s deal with it, okay? Hell, we can do family therapy. I am sure some of you need to talk to a psychiatrist.”

“Some of us?” I say, my eyebrows touching my hairline.

“Yes, some of you,” he says with a straight face, “But seriously, we’re here for whatever you need. And then you can do what needs to be done, either marry her or set her free. Please don’t try to explain why you can’t, keep that shit to yourself. I don’t want to hear shit from either one of you because I already know what you are going to say is complete bullshit,” he says, walking away before Jabarri or I can respond.

“Guess he told you! And if that unstable ass lunatic can make sense, I suggest listening to him. The man is crazy ninety-nine percent of the time,” Joseph says.

“Please shut the hell up. You ran behind Joyce for months before she would even let you learn her middle name,”

“That’s a low blow,”

“The point is none of us had an easy time with the women in our lives, so none of us have room to talk,” I reply.

“Oh, we have room because we got our shit together and got the girl. Now, come on, we need to see the show,” Asher says. No sooner are the words out of his mouth than I see Brooklyn making her way over to us.

“I will say one thing: her resignation certainly agrees with her. She is making a statement in that peach dress.”

“Don’t make me pluck your fucking eyes out,” I growl out.

“Yeah, right,” Jabarri says.

“And wait a minute, did Skai just walk in here with a man for a date?” I ask, watching the little menace walk in on the arm of her date, and Jabarri damn near breaks his neck turning to look in her direction.

“She said she wouldn’t date a guy,” he mumbles.

“Excuse me?” I ask. I am pretty sure I am the only person who heard his low words.

“Nothing,” he says, walking away, possibly pissed off.

“What’s wrong with Jabarri?” Brooklyn says once she reaches me.

“Nothing, he’ll figure it out,” I say, walking her over to our table to await the show.
