“Hold on y’all, the men said they will not be left out, so we’ll leave it up to the guest of honor to decide if we will let the men perform.” Everyone looks over to Lennox and watches as Peter whispers something in her ear, and a smile slides across her face, and I know we’re in trouble. Sure enough, she looks to Angie and shakes her head yes. Damn, this just got real.

If looks could kill, I would be dead on the floor right now from the look Brooklyn is leveling on me.
“How did y’all find out?”
“We overheard y’all selecting the songs, and once Peter told us Lennox’s favorite TV show, it all made sense. Now, if you excuse me, I have to go get ready,” I say, breezing past her but not before I use my index finger to close her mouth. Yep, I would have been dead several times over.
“Ok, so we got us a battle now! The men against the women! So here we go! First up is Atlas, Asher, Anson, Bubba and Aryan, akaNsync!”Angie announces to us, and the curtain pulls back to reveal us standing there in the iconic outfits, complete with the headphone microphones; a few seconds later,Bye, Bye, Byebegins to play. We dance around the stage and even do the legendary dance that is known around the world. Military cardio ain’t got nothing on 90’s boy band choreography.
After we went, it was Jabarri, Luke, Liam, and Lucas’ turns, and they performedDemonsby Imagined Dragons, followed by Shepp and Saint, who are the iconic rap duoEric B & Rakim.Next was Josh, Joseph, Jaasiel, and the General who choseJagged Edge’s Promise.
“Our final performer of the night is our guest of honor’s husband, none other than Mr. Peter Bennet, asIni Kamoze!And I don’t know about you all, but I can’t wait to see this!” Angie declares as the curtains pull back, and Peter is standing there in an all-white suit, with a full-length white fur coat, wide-brim hat, and a white cane with a diamond lion's head as a handle. He looks like a 1960s pimp, and thenHere Comes the Hotsteppercomes on, and Peter puts on a real show for us. Who knew Peter could dance like that? I swear I hope I am in as good of shape as Peter is. He literally glided across the stage. This man did the two-step, then the wop, and finished it off with the roger rabbit. Hell, I walked over to a table and voted for Peter my damn self.
“Now, personally, I don’t know why anyone else even performed after seeing that!” Angie says. “Peter, I need to know what you eat and what your exercise regimen is because I can’t even do the Roger Rabbit anymore. Ok, y’all know the deal: vote for your favorite, and the two with the most votes will face off!” Brooklyn and I take our seats and vote, putting the slips of paper in the box on the table and wait patiently for the results to be announced.

Brooklyn
“Okay, we have tallied all the votes and ran into an unexpected situation. One act got so many votes we decided that they were indeed the winner of the lip sync battle,” Angie says as one of the servers carries the trophy to the stage. “The winner is none other than Peter Bennett!” The room is thunderous with applause as Peter stands to make his way to the podium to get his trophy.
“Should have known Peter would come through and beat us all out,” Aryan leans over to whisper into my ear.
“For real though,” I say, laughing up at him. “Come on, let’s go congratulate the winner.”
“Personally, I think you cheated,” Aryan tells Peter.
“There was no need to cheat, Aryan I’m just more talented than you,” Peter says. They get into a debate about that, and I notice Skai standing off to the side and make my way over to her.
“What’s wrong, little sis?”
“Nothing,” she snaps, but I follow her eyes to where she is looking, and I end up looking at Jabarri and Natalie.
“You can’t do that, Skai, He watched you be with someone for years. You can’t get an attitude now that he is dating,” I tell her.
“Hmp,” she says, finally tearing her eyes off of Jabarri and Natalie. “That is a completely different situation.”
“How Skai? That man has had it bad for you for years, and you did not give him the time of day, so now that he has moved on and you’re single, you still expect him to be there. That’s not fair.”
“You have it all figured out, huh?” she says with more anger than I have ever seen.
“Skai,” I start.
“No, I was in a relationship, what I thought was a happy relationship. I wasn’t supposed to give him the time of day.”
“Okay, and now?” I ask.
“Like I said, you have it all figured out, right? You have no idea what you are talking about, no idea at all. I have all the reasons to have a problem with what I am seeing over there.”
“How Skai?”
“You know things aren’t always what they seem. I would think someone like you would understand that because you and Aryan are damn sure more than fucking friends,” she says, walking away from me before I can say more or get clarification of what she is talking about.
“Are you okay?” Aryan asks.
