“Parker, what are you doing here? Is everything okay?” I ask, hugging her.

“Yeah, I just came by to see Brook is she available? Nurse Wratchett wouldn’t let me back,” she says.

“Come on back, Brook is feeding Mickey,” I tell her, using McKinley’s nickname.

“Gotcha,” she says, knocking on Brooklyn’s office door and entering when D responds. I leave them to it and finish closing up. I sent the new nurse home. Honestly, I don’t know if she is going to last. The nurse left a few minutes ago. I lock the front door, turn the lights off, and head back to my office. I decided to join Brooklyn and Trevor in running the practice after the wedding. I still do my jewelry making and am training Salove when he showed an interest in it. He and Alondra live in one of the houses that we built and are doing well. They both enrolled in school and have part-time jobs at Joseph’s coffee shops. The house is coming along, and we’ve decided to do some upgrades, so Asher is in heaven designing the house all over again. So much change, so many things are the same. At the end of the day, I am happy.

Brooklyn

Mickey just releases a burp that a grown beer guzzling drunk would be jealous of when there is a knock at the door.

“Parker, what are you doing here? Is everything okay?”

“No, Brooklyn and I didn’t want to go to anyone else,” she says, and I am immediately on alert. I stand up, placing McKinley in her playpen before I make my way over to Parker.

“What’s wrong?”

“I need you to do something, but you have to keep it to yourself,”

“Is it medical?”

“Yes.”

“Well, I can’t disclose anything as your doctor, Parker,”

“No medical records or notes, and you can’t tell Aryan,”

“Parker,” I say because I don’t keep secrets from my husband.

“Fine, but he has to be sworn to secrecy too,”

“What is wrong? You’re scaring me,” I say, genuinely concerned.

“I need you to give me a pregnancy test,” she says, and my mouth hits the floor. “I always thought I couldn’t have more kids since I never got pregnant again after I lost my baby, but I’m tired, nauseous, and I missed my period.”

“For how long?”

“Um, several months,”

“Several months!” I yell, startling Mickey.

“We have been busy, I thought it was stress.”

“That’s valid. Okay, take this cup and go in my bathroom and fill it up.”

She takes the cup into the bathroom, and a few seconds later, she is back. I put my gloves on, set the cup on a paper towel, and placed a stick in the urine. Parker and I watch the lines on the strip change color almost immediately.

“Girl, you’re pregnant,” I tell a stunned Parker.
