Lily

The happiest moment of my life was when Connor proposed to me.

The second was when he burst through that door.

And the third was seeing the look of surprise on Miranda’s face when she realized what I had done to her.

While Connor kept her talking, I picked the lock and undid the handcuffs from my right wrist. (Bobby pins to the rescue!) Then I grabbed Miranda’s arm and slapped the cuffs on her.

Anytime I’m ever depressed about anything from now on for the rest of my life, I’m just going to remember the look of surprise on that murderous bitch’s face, and everything will be better. Instant anti-depressant.

Miranda yanked her arm up with a clank! of the chain, but she was locked to the metal armrest of the chair – which was bolted to the floor.

She screamed in fury, and pulled the gun’s trigger.

BLAM!

But I’d purposefully bumped her aim away from Connor – so all that happened was one of the creepy glass spider cases shattered into tiny shards.

The gunshot hurt my ears, but I’d been expecting it. Using the rest of Johnny’s training, I simply peeled the gun out of her grasp and spun away.

Now I had the gun, and Miranda was chained to her rapidly sinking ship.

“That was fucking amazing,” Connor said in shock, which only made me happier.

“NOOOOOO!” Miranda screamed, her face twisted with rage. “LET ME OUT OF HERE!”

“Fuck you,” Connor yelled at her. “Come on, Lily, let’s go.”

I know it’s insane, given everything she had done to us – but I felt bad. We were leaving her to die. It was no worse than the fate she’d planned for us… but I’m a human being. Unlike Miranda.

“Connor…” I pleaded.

“NO. Come on, we have to go,” he said, grabbing my free hand and pulling me towards the door.

“DON’T LEAVE ME HERE!” Miranda screamed, now begging for her life. “PLEASE!”

“Connor, we can’t just – ”

“Lily, we don’t have time to argue about this!”

Suddenly the boat tilted backwards as well as to the side. We stumbled from the sharp change in angle –

And Connor’s gun, which had been lying on the ground, slid across the floor towards Miranda.

She saw it just as we did.

“LILY!” Connor yelled.

Miranda threw herself onto the floor, one hand still cuffed to the chair, and stretched out and grabbed the pistol as it slid towards her.

My heart leapt into my throat.

I didn’t know if I could shoot her. No matter how much I hated her, I didn’t want to shoot her –

Luckily, I didn’t have to find out.
