Connor pulled me towards the open door and hauled me bodily around the corner.

BLAM BLAM BLAM!

Just feet away from us, three bullet holes blasted splinters in the rapidly tilting deck.

“Oh my God,” I gasped.

“Come on,” Connor said, grabbing me and forcing me towards the metal railing.

“But Sebastian – ”

“He’s already in the water!”

A familiar voice yelled from somewhere far away. “Connor?! LILY!”

I looked down the steep angle of the deck to see Johnny hanging onto the railing. It was like we were all on the Titanic, and the ship was tilting upwards at a crazy angle as it rolled over at the same time.

“Johnny!” I screamed, both in terror and happiness.

“Go, GO!” he yelled, waving us both on.

The bow of the ship was heaving even higher into the air. I could hear Miranda shrieking inside the cabin. Deep within the ship came the sound of wood splintering and breaking.

“You heard the man,” Connor said.

I had to use both hands to grab onto the railing, so I dropped the gun in the water. As I held on tight, I paused. The water was almost thirty feet below me, and the distance was growing every second as the ship continued to tilt. Even though I knew it was jump or die, it still scared the hell out of me.

“Lily,” Connor said.

I felt his arms on either side of mine as he grabbed the railing, surrounding me, providing a backstop with his body against mine so I couldn’t fall.

I looked behind me into those eyes I loved.

“I’m right behind you,” he said.

I nodded fearfully – then climbed onto the railing and jumped.
