Rescue came an hour later in the form of a police boat from the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Sure enough, Eve had alerted the authorities and given them the last coordinates of the yacht. When they discovered wreckage floating on the water, they had headed for the nearest island and found Johnny and Sebastian sitting on the beach.

“Are there any other survivors?” the captain of the police boat had asked when they got to shore.

“Yeah… but you’re going to have to wait a little while,” Johnny explained. “They just got married an hour ago.”

“And they started their honeymoon early,” Sebastian said with a roll of his eyes.

I have to admit, I was a little embarrassed when Connor and I straggled out of the sand dunes, my wet clothes askew and him halfway out of his black fatigues. But Connor was all smiles, and the crew of the police boat broke out in spontaneous cheers and applause.

That was my wedding day.

I wouldn’t have traded it for any other.
