“I can’t tamper with evidence,” Bert said. “Don’t ask me to do that.”
“I’m not. But maybe there’s something in his possessions that might tell us something. Like a candy wrapper or something.”
“You want me to look for a candy wrapper?” Bert asked drily.
“I don’t know,” Sebastian said, exasperated. “All I know is that you’re the only one who might get access to evidence. Johnny, Lily, and I sure as hell can’t.”
Bert sighed. “I’ll call the DA, see what I can do.”
“What about me?” I asked. “What am I supposed to do?”
Sebastian shrugged. “Go with Bert, I guess.”
“What?! Why can’t I do something?”
“Well, you can either sit around and watch me send emails, or go question bodyguards with Johnny. Take your pick.”
I looked at Johnny, then grumbled, “I’ll go with Bert.”
