“A DNA TEST?” He gaspe., “Then what was the result? It can’t be what I am thinking, right?”

“I don’t know what the result was, and I want to know.”

“What would this change for you?”

“A lot of things. First it would show that my mother also betrayed me. Actually not only would she betray me, she would also betray her husband. You don’t understand, Chan, my mom can’t cheat. She cried so hard when my dad cheated, she couldn’t have possibly done the same.”

“What do you want me to do?”

“Whatcanyou do? Can you find the hospital they took the test at? Can you find the result? What exactly?”

“This would be hard, unless you can give me more detailed information.”

“Then what details do you need?”

“Where was the test conducted? Do you think it was when you were in Canada or when you traveled to join the Antonios in Paris?”

“I don’t know. The whole incident happened a year after we moved to Paris. It could have happened then, but it could have also happened before then.”

“I know it’s been long, but do you remember the hospitals your parents used, both in Canada and Paris?”

I remembered the hospitals vividly. I even remembered the name of one of the doctors in Canada. She was my favorite and always made sure she gave me one chocolate bar and one apple whenever I went for a checkup.

“Yes.” I told him the hospitals and he hummed.

“ I got it, I’ll get back to you in a while. Please take it easy, okay? I hope you didn’t call your mom and shout at her.”

“I did, and I don’t regret it. I’m waiting for her to call me back and confess, because if I find out about it myself…”

“Jordan Vincenzo.”

“It’s Alexis George.”

He repeated my full name as if I didn’t say anything. “You need to take it easy with her. You can’t just accuse her because you heard it from someone who was about to die.”

“I’ll talk to you later. Check it for me urgently.”

“Okay, be careful. Bye.” I hung up.

What would happen if I wasn’t Chris’ daughter? For some reason, it bothered me. I killed him because he betrayed me, and nothing could ever justify what he did, but I would still feel bad if it turned out that he wasn’t my father.

The doorbell rang twice in a row. I got up from the bed and padded toward the door. I checked the mini security camera and saw Jayden. His face was blooming and I wondered what happened. I opened the door for him and locked it as he walked in.

“What are you doing here?” I barked at him.

“Should I go?” He asked quietly and I stopped. He wasn’t happy. I bit my lower lip and sighed as I thought of what to do. I didn’t want to sound like I cared, but there was no other way to do it.

“What happened?” He looked at me as I asked. With his height being about 6’1, he didn’t strain his neck too much to look me in the eyes. He slumped his shoulders with a sigh and slouched on the couch.

My legs followed him without permission and I sat beside him. He turned to me and cupped my cheeks. “Should we run away?” I furrowed my eyebrows at him. What suddenly brought this thought?

I scoffed and turned away. “Seriously? Why?”

“They are figuring things out. You heard everything, you heard them. What would I do if they found you? Flower, please let’s run away to wherever you want.”

“And why would I want to go anywhere with you?”

“Don’t you get it?” He snapped. “Don’t you understand? They’ll find you and they’ll kill you. I’m begging you, let’s run from these people.”
