“Fifty five sir, fifty five million.”

I whispered a ‘wow.’ I knew Mr Aaron was willing to offer us a huge amount of money since he wanted us to be the one to do the job, but I didn’t know it was that much. It was just to get two houses in DC and one in Florida for his wife’s birthday, which –looking at the simple plan his wife drew– would barely cost thirty five million dollars.

“He paid that to the SC?”

“No, some agents told me that he paid them forty.”

The South Conglomerate was my biggest competitor and they had tried to bring me down a couple of times, but they obviously failed. My company’s customer service was really great and we had the highest reviews so it wasn’t really a competition, but more like a beef.

I would never hear enough for losing this deal to them, it was their greatest achievement after all.

Building this real estate company with the assistance of my dad is the only thing he did for me as a father. And now that I was directing this myself, as my own boss, I didn’t think he would get mad at me for losing money that wasn’t even his.

When it came to liaising with our clients, negotiating contracts, ensuring legal compliance and conducting viewings, companies preferred to work with us. That was why we were always bombarded with loads of work.

It was the first time I didn’t work for over three weeks straight since the set up of my company. It was all because of Jordan, and I would do it over and over again. She deserved every bit of my attention and I was ready to give it to her. The company could go to ruins for all I care, as long as she stayed.

“Then why couldn’t you do it? Do I have to be there for everything?” I asked him in a soft yet stern voice.

“Sorry sir, but Mr Aaron refused to speak with anyone unless the boss was present. We tried calling you several times, but you were unavailable.”

“That’s because your customer service and marketing skills are not good enough. You have a masters degree in business management for God’s sake. I can’t have a manager who makes me worry about losing customers because they only trust me. I can’t be around all the time.”

I planned to go on a vacation with Flower after everything was over. I had a blue four bedroom house in Paris and a gray four bedroom house in Florida, it was wherever she wanted to go. If she wanted a vacation on the moon, I’d make it happen. I just wanted to be with her as soon as everything ended.

“I’m sorry sir, it won’t happen again,” he apologized, and I rolled my eyes. He was always sorry, and then he would call again to announce the departure of yet another client.

“Fine fine, I have to go. I’m busy right now and I don’t want to receive any calls, even if the company is on fire, okay?”

“Yes sir.”

“Matthew, I repeat, I don’t wantanycalls right now. But then again, if I return to the office and there’s even a single dent on my company, you’ll pay for it.” I threatened, pointing my finger at nothing in front of me.

“Yes sir, I understand.”

“Good, see you later.” I hung up and threw my phone. I went to my kitchen to make cereal for myself, while I turned on the television to help with the deafening silence in the house.

I scooped another spoon of the Frosted Crunchy flakes and my phone rang again. I glanced over to it and saw John’s name on the icon. I struggled to eat the flakes as fast as I could, and as soon as I swallowed it, I picked up the phone.

“Hey,” I greeted with a small smile on my lips

“Dee, there’s a problem.” My heart skipped about four hundred and seventy six beats at once. They found her? or they knew something they shouldn’t know?

“What is it?” I asked slowly, scared of the answer I might receive, as different emotions ran through my body.

“Your father’s investigator went to South Africa to find out about Alex’s first kill. Actually he found her first kill already. Remember the therapist I told you about, now he’s going to find out her relationship with him. If he gets to know Alex is a girl, they’ll act faster than before.”

They might even know she is Jordan, since they already guessed that Jordan sent Alex. I clenched my fingers around my bowl until my knuckles turned white. Restlessness sprouted in my chest.

It was time, it was finally time.

“What do I do, John? What should I do? They can’t catch her, you know they can’t catch her.”

“Does she have a personal investigator?”

“I don’t know, I don’t know if she does. I mean she should since she gathered information on us for years.”

“Okay, you know what? I have her information, I’ll shut down her cyber guide, and mask her internet protocol address with a virtual private network. Or if you do call her and she says she has an investigator, tell him to do everything I listed.”
