“Jay.” I answered instantly and he smiled widely again.

“I’m happy I got shot, I got to hear this.”

I shut my eyes at his words. This was all my fault, I made him doubt himself, made him doubteverything. “Don’t say that, please.”

“Flower,” he called again and I hummed in response. “Kids?” My eyes flung open at his question and I titled my head. Could I have kids? I never thought about that because I never wanted children ever. Not now, not ever.

“I can’t promise you that, Jayden. I am a broken woman, we are broken people and we are definitely not capable.” I said truthfully, as I couldn’t promise what I couldn’t give. “Broken people will only create more broken people, it’s a game that will never stop. I just want you.”

“And I want you.” I smiled at his response and I placed my lips on his. No kissing, just a tender touch between our lips. I saw his eyes fluttering shut and I immediately removed my lips from his, cupping and gently slapping his face.

“Don’t close your eyes, please don’t close your eyes.”

“But I’m very weak,” he muttered in a barely audible voice and as I looked around trying to do something, Gideon walked back in.

“I got a car, let’s go.” I nodded, giving him space as he moved to carry Jayden on his back.

After he adjusted hin on his back, I looked at Cedric and saw him still lying breathless on the floor, blood all over his face. He wasn’t dead, but even if he was, I wasn’t going to take any chance. I picked up a gun from the floor and aimed at his heart, hoping to empty every single bullet in it.

Bang. Bang. Bang. I shot him three times and realized there were only three bullets in it. That was okay –one for my dad, one for Jayden’s mom and one for Jayden. I turned to leave but as I took one step, I decided I wasn’t satisfied with his death.

I checked around and my eyes caught a bloody knife on the floor beside a dead guard. I picked it up, smelled it and stabbed it into the crook of Cedric’s neck.

Now he looked much better.

Jayden’s eyes were shut as we pushed him toward the surgery room and even as I whispered sweet nothings to him, he didn’t open his eyes to look at me.

I was stopped from entering the surgery room there and I could swear that a part of me entered that room with them. I felt a part of me enter that room with them because I didn’t trust any of them to save him for me.

I sat on the reception chair, grabbed my stomach and winced. An ache started deep in my stomach as I tried to push down the lump in my throat so many times but couldn’t. I burst into tears.

Gideon was being treated, but I refused to get any treatment until I was sure Jayden would be okay. Footsteps slowly crunched toward me and I raised my head to see a nurse.

“Please follow me, you need to get treated.”

Even with the pains I was feeling in my stomach, I just wanted Jayden to be safe. “Forget it,” I dismissed her, but she stood her ground.

“Please ma’am, you are bleeding from your arm and you are grabbing your belly right now. Let us treat you.”

“Just focus on saving him.”

Why wasn’t she in the surgery room with Jayden anyway? I wanted every single doctor and nurse in there with him. Hell, I’d even bring more doctors from other hospitals if I had to.

“They will save him, but I’m sure he won’t like to wake up and see you still so hurt too, so let’s get you treated.” She looked at me with her eyebrows almost raised, probably hoping she successfully manipulated me by using Jayden.

She did.

I nodded at her. She smiled and led me into one of the wards.

She bandaged my wounds and after we both argued about her doing a test on me, she finally let me have my way and gave me pain relief to ease the pain.

She told me to sleep on the bed and went out, returning a little bit later. “The doctors are out of the surgery room, and one will like to see you when you wake up.”

I jumped off the bed so sudden that the bed clanked to the wall. “I was never sleeping,” I replied to her, making my way to the doctor’s office.
