FLASHBACK

I was so uncomfortable, but I had to be here. I was the only one with him yesterday which also meant I was the only one who could explain what happened.

How could I tell them that Jordan killed Troy? How could I tell them that she was Alex? How could I tell on her like that? That was just something I could never do.

I shouldn’t be hiding this from my family, but I couldn’t tell on her either.

If there was anything I grabbed from meeting her yesterday, it was that she was back to take revenge and we were all going to die. But could I still tell on her despite knowing I might be on her list too?

I might have not seen her for ten years, but seeing her made me realize that the feelings never left. It used to be called a crush but now I was older and could confidently say that I love her. Would she want to hear that though? Would she want to hear that I love her? She definitely wouldn’t.

“Mr Antonio…” The investigator called me and I frowned at him.

“It’s Mr Jayden,” I snapped at him, but he just nodded and opened his note.

My dad could never call the cops. He knew what dirty business they were all into, so they needed to know if Troy’s death could reveal things before calling the police. Fucked up family.

“It says here that you were at Fords Hall with him yesterday.'' He raised an eyebrow to accompany his question and I shrugged.

“If that’s what it said.”

“Jayden, answer the man,” Dad spat and I threw an unbothered glare at him.

“That’s exactly what I’m doing. You don’t think I killed him, do you?” I questioned, narrowing my eyes at him.

“No, of course we don't, Mr Jayden. You just need to help us. You were the one who saw him last.”

I nodded at the man. At least he was wiser than my dad. “Thank you. So did you notice anything unusual about him?”

“No I didn’t, he was normal,” I stated and the man jotted down on his note.

“Anybody you suspect?” The man asked my dad and I scoffed. They all turned their heads to me.

“It’s Troy y’all. I’ll be surprised if nobody wants to kill him.” My dad growled and the man raised amused eyebrows at me. I shrugged. “Besides, we clearly saw the note, Alex killed him.” I winced as I swallowed the lump that came up to my throat.

No matter what, Alex was still my Flower and the thought that she killed still baffled and disturbed me.

“Alex is an assassin, Mr Jayden. He works for people so someone must have sent him to kill Mr Troy,” he said and I glared at him in disgust.

How could he just assume the gender of an unknown person? I thought investigators were smart.

My mouth itched to say that Alex might also be a girl, but I couldn’t drop a hint on my Flower. Never.

“Mr Antonio, do you suspect anyone?” The man asked again and my dad thought for a while. The clock stopped moving and I stared at his lips, every fiber in me was worried that he might say Jordan.

I knew he couldn’t say that, he had long forgotten about that. It was just me and the fact that I didn’t know how to lie without my whole face giving it away.

Because I already knew who Alex was, I couldn’t help but feel guilty and stressed out.

I glanced to my left side to see the private investigator peering at me. Even my dad and brothers were looking.

Have I been caught?

I gulped. I suddenly felt sweaty and my hand reached out to unknot my tie which was starting to choke me. Except there wasn’t a tie. It was guilt and emotions that were choking me. Unable to take it anymore, I stood up abruptly and they all turned to me with confused and curious gazes.

Oh so they weren’t looking before. Damn my subconscious mind.

“I… I have to go, I have a meeting,” I stuttered out and my dad sighed.
