“I hate you, Lexi. I don’t want to see you ever again.” She narrowed her eyes at me, a habit she did when she wastoomad about something.

“Okay, I’ll never come to see you ever again,” I repeated with a smirk on my face and she widened her eyes, while Kendal giggled.

“No, I was just joking,” she whined. “You are not doing a good job at making me forgive you,” she continued and I smiled at her. Soon enough, a smile ghosted her lips as well. “I’ll miss you, Lexi.”And we’re back to the sappiness.

“I’ll miss you more, I swear. It’ll be just me in the house, you know. You’ll love this place. You just have to give me a call if they treat you in any way you don’t like.” I said and they nodded. “Your keeper will join you on Wednesday. If you don’t like her, give me a call and I’ll change her immediately.” They nodded again, finally calming down.

I opened the booth to bring out their luggage. Mr Rey smiled at them, before calling on two security guards to help with their bags. They finally smiled back at him.

“Kendal is just the other block away. Nothing is stopping you from seeing him, okay?” She nodded at me and I continued, addressing Kendal this time. “Nothing is stopping you from seeing her too. She’s your sister and you’re the only one who can protect her. You don’t trust anybody with her, anybody at all.” Kendal nodded at me. “I’ll miss you so much,” I said again. They both looked at me and then at each other, smiling.

‘You admitted to missing us twice, maybe coming to the school was a good idea,’ Kendal signed dramatically and I glared at him. They burst into laughter and plopped into my arms for a hug. I embraced them with a sigh.

I would miss them so much, even more than I showed.

“It’s time to leave, kids.”

Ariana’s lips trembled again and I shook my head at her. She bit her lower lip and nodded. I threw her a flying kiss and she giggled.

“Bye, Lexi.” Ariana and Kendal waved at me.

“Bye Ariana, Bye Kendal.” I watched them enter the school and once they were out of sight, I entered the car, wiped the tears building in my eyes and started the engine.

From the rear mirror, I saw there was a car parked not too far from the school. I checked my memory and noticed that the car only parked there when I arrived too. I drove on, noting the car following me from whattheywould call asafedistance. I smiled.

This was going to be a long ride.

JAYDEN

“Where is she heading now?” I asked John.

He paused for a while and I tapped my feet on the floor. It was a subsist tic for me, and was really needed these days.

I finished a meeting with a client a while ago, and I was a hundred percent sure that he knew something was wrong with me.

EvenIknew something was wrong with me. I didn’t even remember what we spoke about. I looked down at my note and realized that I didn’t jot anything down, which meant I took nothing from the two-hour-long meeting.

It was going to bite me in the ass later - if I lost the deal, but I couldn’t think about that for now because the only person that mattered was Jordan.

“She just dropped the kids at the school. I think she’s heading back to her house.”

“Okay, I need to know where her house is,” I requested as I turned off my computer and arranged the notes inside my drawer. He scoffed in response.

“Even after I told you she’s an assassin?”

“Stop calling her an assassin.” I frowned at the phone. He needed to stop saying that, we didn’t know anything yet. “Just follow her.”

“I’m putting my life on the line for you. I swear if I die, I will kill you.”

“No, you are putting your life down for money. I told you to let me get someone else, didn’t I? Don’t act like I don’t pay you. If you die, you die working.”

“Well that’s the point, I don’t want to die working. I want to die curled up in my bed with my gamepad in my hands.”

“Follow her,” I repeated and hung up immediately.

I began undressing to take a bath, and sighed when my mind replayed the conversation I had with my family during the weekend.
