Nigel's hand brushed her arm as he set down the plates in front of her. He'd made a beautiful dinner for them both. It was a date to make up for the one that was ruined by Lily's appearance.

April looked up at him, feeling grateful for his presence in her life. Nigel had been there for her through it all, supporting her as she struggled to come to terms with everything she'd been through the past week.

"Thank you for this," she said, smiling up at him. "It looks delicious."

Nigel leaned over and kissed her on the cheek. "Anything for you," he said, his voice soft and gentle.

April felt a wave of affection wash over her. Nigel was kind, loving, and everything she had ever wanted in a partner. She knew that she was lucky to have him in her life. She was lucky that he chose her in the end.

The table was adorned with white linens and centered by an elegant arrangement of candles and flowers. Silverware was arranged neatly around two settings.

The warm light of the candles gave everything on the table a pleasant glow. Matched with the sunset, the ambiance was beautifully set up for a romantic evening.

As they took their first bites, April felt a sense of contentment wash over her. "Oh man," she said, mouth full of tortellini. "This is excellent."

The scent of delicious food filled the air, a blend of herbs and spices that tantalized the senses. A hint of floral and sweet scents wafted from the centerpieces to provide a pleasant undertone.

Nigel's fork squeaked across his plate as he scraped up the pasta. "Thank you! I tried hard on these ones. This is make-up tortellini. Because this is a make-up date."

April chuckled. "Well, it's definitely making up for everything that's happened this past week."

They continued eating in comfortable silence, enjoying the taste of the delicious meal and each other's company. April couldn't help but feel grateful for the life she had built for herself. Despite all the challenges she had faced, she had come out the other side stronger and happier.

"You look gorgeous tonight," Nigel said, eyeing her up and down. She loved when his eyes wandered.

April felt a blush spread across her cheeks as Nigel's gaze lingered on her. She wore a simple black dress that hugged her curves in all the right places. Her hair was pulled back in a messy bun, with a few strands framing her face. She felt confident and beautiful, and Nigel's compliment only added to her joy.

"Thank you, you look quite handsome yourself," she replied, taking a sip of her wine.

Nigel grinned, his eyes sparkling in the candlelight. "Well, I had to look good for you. You're hard to impress."

"Is that what you think of me?" she asked with a wide-mouthed smile, almost offended by the comment. "That I'm hard to impress?"

"You are!" he cried out. They laughed together, filling the room with sounds of their enjoyment.

After they died down, he explained, "You have high standards. It's actually a good thing. It means that you vet the people in your life. I'm honored to be the one on this date tonight because I know you demand and deserved the best."

She was honored by his words. It was like he always knew exactly what to say and when to say it.

April felt a sense of warmth settle over her as she looked at Nigel. He was right, she did have high standards, and he had met every single one of them.

"I'm glad you think so highly of me," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Nigel reached a hand over and squeezed hers. "Of course I do. You're amazing, April. I'm lucky to have you in my life."

A smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. "I feel the same way."

The rest of the evening passed in a blur of laughter. Their conversation flowed effortlessly as they ate, discussing everything from work to their future plans. Nigel was a good listener, always attentive and supportive of her dreams.

As the night drew to a close, Nigel stood up from the table and took April's hand in his. He kissed her deeply, lingering on her lips for as long as possible.

April's heart raced as they pulled away from each other. Nigel's eyes sparkled with desire as he looked at her, making her feel like the only woman in the world.

Without a word, he took her hand and led her out onto the balcony. The stars were shining brightly in the sky, casting a romantic glow over everything. Nigel stood behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and holding her close.

April leaned back into him, feeling his warmth and strength. She turned her head to look at him, and he leaned down to kiss her again, softly.

This time, they were interrupted by a soft buzz coming from April's pocket. Who would be calling her at a time as special as this?
