When he looked back, she was gazing at him with curiosity.

"Yes, little wolf?"

"Do you think that your friend Melody could come to play sometime?"

An odd mixture of emotions filled Jake's stomach. Guilt, frustration, and anger mixed with excitement and desire until he wasn't sure which he felt most strongly.

"I guess we would have to ask, though I am certain she is a very busy woman," Jake responded, unsure as to how exactly he would feel about such a thing. "Don't worry about it too much, sweet little wolf. I shall see you in the morning."

With that, he blew Sally a kiss, turned out the light and pulled the door behind him.

Before he could change his mind on what he intended to do, he skipped down the stairs and out the front door, leaving it unlocked. In a place like Silverdale, where the werewolves ruled, there was no need for locking his doors.

And so, he hoped over the fence, much like Lewis had done that morning, and headed to Melody's front door. Though he was still slightly frustrated that she had felt the need to get involved during his fight with Sally's mother, he also felt more than a little guilty at the way he had snapped.

And so, he sucked up his pride and hammered his fist on the sage-painted door.

Why am I even bothering? He wondered as he waited for an answer, feeling like a total fool. When she had looked at him from her car that morning, there had been nothing but cold, hard aggression in her eyes.

Maybe it would simply be best to leave her alone. Besides, he had just managed to get himself free of one hormonal she-wolf. He didn't need another mucking him about.

Having knocked a second time with no answer, Jake turned and made his way back down the porch steps. He was halfway down the garden path, debating whether or not to hop back over the fence, when he heard the door behind him creak open.

"What do you want?"

The tone of Melody's voice was hard and cold, and it made Jake's skin crawl. Yet, he plastered a careful smile on his face and turned back to return to the porch.

Melody stood in the doorway with her arms crossed over her chest, her body language suggesting she was ready for confrontation.

"I…um…" Jake stammered, running his fingers through his black hair. Now that he was faced with her, he found himself almost speechless. "I came to apologize for earlier. I shouldn't have snapped at you the way I did."

Melody's brown eyes flashed with surprise. Her arms loosened a little with the shock, but then immediately tightened around her chest again as her jaw clenched.

She seemed to talk through gritted teeth as she said, "Don't apologize. You were right. It wasn't any of my business."

Her defensive attitude and the way she glowered at him made his hackles rise. His wolf clawed at his insides, desperate to get out and teach her a thing or two.

"There's no need for you to be so defensive," Jake said, and no sooner had he said the words than she scoffed at him.

"That's rich, coming from you," she growled at him, and the hair on the back of Jake's neck rose further.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing," Melody shrugged, only infuriating him further. "Was that all? I'm pretty busy doing nothing."

The sarcastic, arrogant way she spoke infuriated Jake to no end, but oddly, it did something else to him as well. It made him so hot and bothered that his hard-on rubbed the zip of his jeans through his briefs.

"No, that's not all," Jake growled, and before he could really give himself time to think, he launched himself at her.

The fear in her gaze turned to lust as he grabbed hold of the back of her head in one hand and snaked his other around her waist.

When their lips met the explosion of desire that blew within him was almost enough to knock him off his feet. It was only her in his arms that anchored him there.

It wasn't until he felt her hands stroke up his chest, tearing at the buttons of his shirt, that he found the will to move. Hands cupping her buttocks, he pulled her up into his arms. The way she braced her arms around his neck made him quiver, and he continued to kiss her even as he carried her backwards into her hallway.

The scent of her vanilla perfume consumed him as he pressed her back against the nearest wall, totally forgetting the open door behind him.

All he could think about was her, kissing her and being inside her.
