He growled low in his throat, and her responsive whimper urged him on. He tore at her clothes, barely able to hold back the animal within. He would not hurt her. He could not. He would never forgive himself.

Yet, he was rough, popping off the buttons on her blouse to expose her creamy, voluptuous breasts in her white lace bra. Growling once more, he nuzzled his face down into the soft mounds and kissed her flesh, breathing the scent of her in deeply as she moaned with pleasure.

Her hands landed on the buckle of his belt, and the clicking of its opening made him giddy. Her hand stroked down the front of his jeans. He was already so rock hard that it was painful.

"Fuck, Melody," he growled through gritted teeth, propping himself against the wall with a hand above her head.

"Was that all?" the question caught him so by surprise that he blinked. And just like that he found himself back on the porch, Melody barring his way into the house with her arms crossed over her chest.

Mind reeling, Jake felt the rock-hardness of his cock pressing painfully against his zipper.

"Hello? Earth to Jake?" Melody growled, clicking her fingers in his face. She looked at him with an overly frustrated expression. "If I tell you I accept your apology, will you get the hell off my porch? I…I have work in the morning."

Her voice faltered on the last sentence, making Jake mildly curious. Yet, he knew he really had no right to question her over why she sounded as though she might be lying. What did it matter to him if she was at work or not?

"I…I really am sorry," Jake admitted, his entire face red with embarrassment as he realized he had just imagined what might have turned out to be a sex daydream right in front of her.

"Yes, I get it. I accept your apology," Melody said, though her voice wasn't entirely convincing. "Now, please, would you leave me be?"

Jake fought back a growl. He had tried his best. All he could do now was leave. Rubbing the back of his neck, he grumbled, "I guess I'll see you around."

"I guess."

Just like that, the door was slammed in his face.

The next morning, Jake was still reeling. He wasn't even sure how he had managed to sleep after his latest confrontation with Melody. Though she had gotten him all riled up, and he likely should have sorted that problem out himself, he couldn't bring himself to do it. No way in hell was he going to masturbate to daydreams of Melody Rivers.

No, instead, he dreamt of her. He shared her bed over and over again until he woke feeling more exhausted than when he had gone to sleep. And though it was early, he clambered from his bed and slipped into the hallway to check on Sally.

He pushed open the door to the spare bedroom just slightly in order to see her still snuggled up with Mr. Fuzzy only to find that the bed was empty.

Panic rose inside him immediately. He hadn't heard her get up during the night. Had he been so distracted by dreams of his new neighbor that he had allowed his ex-wife to come back during the middle of the night and steal Sally away again at the drop of a hat?

Bile rising in his throat, he tried his hardest not to panic.

"Sally?" he called, hoping maybe she had gone to the bathroom. He checked it to find the room empty.

Pounding down the stairs, he yelled a little louder, "Sally? Sally! Where are you?"

Pausing in the kitchen, concerned that she wasn't getting herself a glass of milk, Jake listened hard. It was only then that he heard the sound of laughter and voices coming from the back garden.

Holding his breath, he darted out the back door and down the back porch steps.

"Sally! What are you doing out here?" Jake snapped the second he saw her standing by the garden fence. Hanging over the top of it was Melody, her hands clad in pale-blue gardening gloves covered in white and yellow daisies.

The smiles on both of their faces dropped the moment they turned to look at him.

Melody's face dropped the most, and she glowered at him over Sally's head while his daughter scowled at him with her arms crossed. The little girl looked about to offer some kind of protest, but she never got the chance as Jake demanded, "I thought you had work this morning."

Melody shrugged her shoulders and looked at him with a cold expression. "I decided not to go in."

Suspicious at that, Jake had to remind himself it really was none of his business.

"Melody was just telling me about her flower garden," Sally explained. "She says I can go over one day and help her water it if I like. Can I go over today, Daddy?"

Jake couldn't bring himself to look at the hopeful look on his daughter's face. Instead, he continued to glower back at Melody as he said, "Sally, it's time to go inside for breakfast and to get ready. Your mom will be here to pick you up in an hour or two, and I have work this afternoon."

Out of the corner of his eye, he watched his daughter's face fall. "But I wanted to…"
