“Don’t worry, ok? Your brother is—well, yes, he’s attractive and very charming, but there are lots of attractive and charming people who can control themselves in professional settings. Otherwise, everyone in L.A. would be hooking up in the copy room.”

She smiled and nodded, but there was still a streak of incredulity in her eyes.

“Yes, you are both professional. I’m sure it will be fine.” She reached over and unexpectedly squeezed my hand.

“Well then. I’ll leave you to your thoughts," she said abruptly.

“It was good to talk to you, though. Thank you for the insight,” I said.

She nodded and smiled. “I like you, Sienna. In a different situation, I wouldn’t mind if you and my brother got better acquainted. But that’s life, isn’t it? Timing and circumstance aren’t always in our favor.”

I smiled tightly. “It is. Good night.

“Dobrou noc.”

ChapterFourteen

It was late by the time I dragged myself back to my room. I was utterly bone-deep exhausted from both the cold and a torrent of cortisol coursing through me, but my talk with Dominika had left me feeling lighter and a little more confident in my ideas about how we might make this whole thing work out for everyone involved. When I woke with the breaking dawn, I thought I knew how I might convince everyone involved.

Of course, I had to get approval from Los Angeles on a couple of tweaks before I officially proposed anything to the Nováks, but I knew Will would be on board. He wanted this to go through as much as I did. As much as Pavel did. And maybe I could make Ondrej see the value.

I was winding my hair through my curling iron when my phone buzzed. I glanced down at the screen and audibly groaned to see Will’s number. I hadn’t talked to my boss this often in the entirety of my tenure at Arcadia Group, even when sharing an office.

Keeping my iron in place, I clicked the answer button with my free hand, putting the call on speaker.

“Good morning. Or Evening. What time is it there?” I eyed the clock and tried to do the calculations.

“Doesn’t matter. I’m not sleeping or eating until this thing goes through,” Will said gruffly. By the frog in his throat, he clearly wasn’t sleeping much.

“Right. Well, things are going well. I actually had something to run by you—”

A clipped, sarcastic laugh interrupted me.

“Going well? You think things are going well?”

I paused, then smelled burning, and quickly unrolled my hair. I was left with one section of hair overly corkscrewed. I groaned, then refocused.

“Sorry?” I said.

Will made a grunting noise. “Are you listening?”

“Yes, sorry. I’m just trying to get ready for my meeting.”

“I’m guessing you have no idea,” Will said.

“About?”

“About the other offer.”

I dropped the iron into the sink, causing it to sizzle. I frantically plucked it out, unplugged it, and set it aside. I picked up the phone and pressed it to my ear.

“What other offer?”

“The Novák Hotel officially has another purchase offer.”

“From whom?” My voice rose to a squeak.

“Wolf Corp. German investor. They’re more known for gentrifying restaurant districts, but they have a faction that dabbles in boutique hotels. A bit similar to our model, but they’re known for really shaking things up, and they have deep pockets when they’re in the mood.”
