“There’s nothing to tell,” Zane insisted, a little too quickly, and Gray scoffed. “What? We worked together, deep undercover, for a year in Yemen. That’s it.”

“That’s it?” Gray echoed. “I think you’re leaving out a pretty important part.”

“We went in as a married couple. It was no big deal.”

“Do you like this woman?” Inda asked.

“Of course, I like her. From a purely professional standpoint. She’s good at what she does and I admire her skills.”

Inda burst out laughing. “I’m sure you do, Banshee. Has she ever used any of her so-called skills on you?” She batted her eyelashes innocently and Zane scowled.

“You should call her,” Gray said. “She’ll help.”

“No,” Zane gritted out, piercing Gray with the look of death.

“Is she a better hacker than you?” Ryland asked.

Zane’s face screwed up. “She’s slightly more talented when it comes to tracking down other hackers. But, I’m better at coding and shit.”

“Call her,” Braxton said. “And that’s an order.”

Gray nodded. “Call River, Banshee.”

“I’d rather throw my laptop in the ocean,” Zane growled, his stormy gaze on the gray waves beyond the sliding glass door.

“Oh, for god’s sake, don’t be such a man,” Inda exclaimed. “What happened? She turned you down and bruised your male ego? Get over yourself and call the woman.”

Zane glared at her, and the rest of the team chuckled.

“We need all the help we can get,” Gray reminded him. “And River can help.”

With a growl, Zane stood up and swiped his phone out his back pocket. “Fine. I’ll fucking call her, but she probably won’t even answer.”

Gray watched his friend stomp out of the room and couldn’t help but smile. He’d heard quite a bit about the infamous River Larsen one night after Zane drank too much and began spilling secrets.

If the woman answered her phone, things were about to get very interesting for his buddy. Despite what Zane claimed, Gray didn’t believe his friend ever got over his old partner. And Gray couldn’t wait to see how things were about to play out.

After the meeting, Gray and Aubrey went outside to take a walk along the beach. His mind was buzzing with everything they’d discussed and he wondered what would happen next. Honestly, he had no idea but, in the meantime, he planned to spend every possible moment with the woman he loved.

“So, it seems like The Agency is about to find out your team is alive,” Aubrey murmured.

He could hear the concern in her voice. “Maybe. But they don’t know we’re here. For now, this place is still a safe haven.”

She nodded. “There are so many bad guys out there.”

Gray stopped, reached for Aubrey and turned her to face him. “There are good guys, too,” he reminded her. “And we’ll make sure you stay safe.”

Beside them, the waves crashed along the shore and salt spiked the sea air.

“But who will keep you safe?” she whispered, reaching out and tracing her finger along the scar on his forearm.

Gray bent his knees and leaned forward, pressing his forehead against hers. “We’ll keep each other safe. How about that?”

“I don’t want to see any more of your blood, Gray. No more knife or gunshot wounds, okay?”

“Okay. You’re brilliant under pressure, though. Especially when I’m bleeding out,” he teased.
