Her arms wrapped around him, laying her head gently on his chest. “You keep saying that, but it doesn’t look like it.”

He lifted her head, cupping her cheeks, then pressed a light kiss to her lips. “Are you okay?”

She shivered but nodded.

“You didn’t have to come outside. I would’ve handled it.”

“And I was going to let you.” A tentative smile emerged. “Then I remembered you telling me how strong I am. If you want me to confront Darrian, I need to practice with other nasty snakes first.”

“You handled him beautifully.” Griffin kissed her again, harder, more insistent. Her hands tightened around his waist, making him groan and wince in pain.

She released him, stepping back. “What am I going to find under your shirt?”

He gave her a wry grin. “Nothing pretty. It was a helluva fight.”

“Come on.” She grabbed his hand, pulling him toward the hallway. “Let’s take that shower.”

His lips widened so far, it hurt. “Together?”

“Someone has to take care of you.”

She lifted his shirt gently, gasping at the bruises marring his chest. Then her lips touched his skin, making him shiver, but not from pain.

Their clothes disappeared. The water was hot and soothing. Her hands full of suds were even more soothing as she wove around his body, washing off the blood and grime from the day. Everywhere she touched lit his body on fire. So gentle. So tender. So full of love.

Neither had yet to say the words, though they teetered on his tongue every single day. When she touched him with such patience, he could only hope she loved him in return.

They kissed, they explored, but they kept it light and carefree. He didn’t think his body could handle anything heavy and strong at the moment, even as his body ached to slam her against the wall and shove deep inside.

They dried each other off, then she pulled him to the bedroom where they lay down, curling into each other.

He brushed a few wet strands of hair off her cheek. “Thank you. I’m already feeling better.”

Her brows puckered as her hands pressed against his chest, holding them there.

“Did you change the towel in the kitchen recently?”

Odd question.

“No, why?”

A tremble coated her body. “It’s nothing.”

He pulled her closer, as close as they could get, cocooning her in his warmth and safety. “Tell me.”

Her eyes sparked with fear for the first time that night. Even outside when she confronted Bryan, she held more courage with a touch of anxiety, but not fear.

“I don’t remember putting the towel with hearts out there. But nothing else looks out of place. The alarm was set when I got home.” She shivered, then chuckled. “I probably did and forgot. I’m being silly.”

“Trust your gut, Eve. If you didn’t change it, then you didn’t. I’ll look into it tomorrow. We’ll figure this out together.” He kissed her forehead, vowing to himself that he’d figure it out or die trying.

A kiss hit his chest, then another. She wriggled out of his arms, pressing kisses along the way, until she hit his cock that was waiting for the ultimate kiss.

He touched her head, relishing in the desire he saw reflected in her eyes.

“You don’t have to do this.”

She licked her lips. “You’re always making me feel good. Worrying about how I’m feeling. It’s my turn to repay that sentiment. You lay back and relax. I’m going to take good care of you.”
