Blaise turns to his friend and grinds his jaw. “You just going to stand there and glare at her or do you have a job to do?” he says so viscously that I turn red and frazzled. And it’s not even me he’s scolding!

The guy throws Blaise a tense glance but stops staring at me. But not before, he introduces himself.

“I’m Lars by the way.” His teeth glimmer as his smile stretches. “From Nederland.”

“I’m Zee,” I say, just being my usual friendly self. “From across the pond.”

That muscle in Blaise’s jaw starts working again and he points at his usual table.

“Are you two done?” He points at a seat. “Sit down,” he barks at this Lars guy and to my surprise he obeys Blaise like a lapdog.

I blink, gawking and Dimitra comes up behind me.

“Salty Suit seems to be in a pissier than usual mood today,” she whispers and I nod.

“You noticed that too?” I ask as I make them their coffees.

“Think everyone noticed, if I didn’t know better I’d say...”

She pauses and I’m tight as a string.

“What?” I hiss.

“Nah, can’t be,” she finally says, shaking her head and marches into the kitchen while I scowl after her. I sigh, walking over to the guys and Lars is checking me out blatantly. He’s not even trying to be discreet and his tongue might as well be on the floor.

I have to say it’s a nice switch up in comparison to Blaise’s coldness. Blaise seems determined to not even throw me a glance and I pinch my lips. Dammit, what’s the point of wanting a man who doesn’t want you back?

Barely registering much of their conversation, I don’t even notice that they’ve stopped talking once I arrive at the table. And when I’m about to give them their coffees, Lars smilingly reaches for his.

But Blaise hijacks him, grabbing both mugs and I inhale when his fingers brush mine. That had to have been deliberate. And I’ve never seen him move that quickly.

With a glower he gives Lars his mug and says, “Thank you Miss. Crichlow, that would be all.”

Nodding I walk away, feeling like his secretary and I hear Lars ask,

“Do you two know each other?”

Unsurprisingly, Blaise doesn’t reply.

“Right,” Lars says quickly, “I’ll be right back...”

His expensive sneakers squeak over the floor and I turn around in surprise when he pokes me on my shoulder.

“Hi again, remember me?” he says chuckling and he puts his hands in his back pockets. “I shouldn’t probably do this during work hours, but I couldn’t help myself. I just had to talk to you.”

I blush, grateful that Lars is blocking my view of Blaise because he’s probably rolling his eyes so hard right now, he’s turning blind.

“That’s nice...,” I begin to say when he interrupts me.

“Excellent, then give me your number and I’ll give you a call.” He bends forward a little, whispering, “I know this great secret, little place.” He lets out a groan as if remembering something luscious. “Best shark meat in town...”

Oh no, he didn’t!

Crossing my arms I say angrily, “That’s illegal! Which place is it exactly?”

“We’ll talk about it over dinner,” Lars says with an unhealthy amount of confidence when Blaise growls,

“Miss. Crichlow, get over here. I want a word.”
