I swear if any other man talked to me in that demanding way, I’d be fuming but there’s just something about this one, maybe it’s the accent...?

The same rules don’t really seem to apply to him as everyone else but life is unfair like that. Besides, I need an excuse to get away from shark boy.

“Pardon me,” I say quickly, brushing past Lars who pouts like a little babe and I go to stand in front of Blaise.“What’s up?” I ask and he scowls up at me but it still feels like it’s me looking up at him. And do his aquamarine eyes seem darker than usual or is it just me?

“I’ve given the funding some thought, weighing pros and cons,” he says carefully and my heart flips in my chest. If he says yes to funding us, I’ll try not to scream because if I haven’t freaked him out enough yet, then my screaming definitely will.

“Oh,” I say, trying not to sound too eager but fail miserably. “With who?”

He frowns as if I’ve asked him something absurd. “Myself.”

Of course, who else. I don’t think Blaise has ever asked for someone’s advice, or opinion for that matter in his whole life. Not that, that’s a bad thing, not always anyway.

“And...?” I ask, the corners of my mouth twitching from hidden joy. Looks like Pendragon isn’t as uncatchable as I first thought, and images of me receiving gold status at the organization flash before my eyes.

“In order to decide, I’ll need.a more thorough explanation of what your organization does,” he continues. “I can be out of the office at three tomorrow for a proper presentation. Will you be free then?”

I look to Dimitra because I work on Saturdays too. She nods and I turn back to Blaise who’s watching me intently.

“Absolutely,” I say as Lars sits down again, muttering to himself and ogling me and Blaise like he wants us to drop dead. “But um…then I’d like to bring you to the coast, to show you something. Are you okay with taking the bus?”

He gives me a look that says that he’s not and I feel stupid for even asking. “We’ll take my car,” he says.

I nod professionally, smiling like crazy and this time Blaise does seem to get affected by my megawatt grin because he squirms. He actually squirms and it’s a thing of beauty. I knew he couldn’t be immune. Smiles can thaw even the coldest person.

“Good, then its settled,” Blaise says, making my inner mermaid thrilled.

“She yours?” Lars asks as I’m about to walk away and Blaise shoots him a deadly glare. Lars leans back in his chair, lifting his palms. “Say no more.”

Dimitra and Roger dance around by the counter, giving me thumbs up and I blush since they’re making scene. Hopefully Blaise doesn’t notice. I throw a look over my shoulder and yep, he definitely noticed. Great. Just punch me in the head and let me fall into a coma.

They leave about an hour later and I’m busy drying glasses, when I feel Dimitra’s looks in the back of my neck.

I turn around asking, “What?”

“Nothing,” she says, rolling her piercing with her tongue. “Did you see the face on Salty Suit when that blonde bloke was chatting you up?”

“No?” I say sincerely and she shoots me a long inquisitive look, that makes me feel a little self-conscious and I brush a hand through my braid.

“Let me tell you, he was fuming,” she says, sounding surprised herself. “You know what he’s like, all self-controlled all the time but he looked like he was ready to lunge at that guy and bite into his throat.”

“Sounds a little territorial,” I say in a wispy voice and raise a brow, “I wonder what he was so territorial about?”

And yeah, I’m fishing. Sue me.

“Don’t know,” Dimitra says, giving me another prying glance as if trying to figure what’s so exceptional about me. “But if I didn’t know any better, I’d say...”

“Yes?” I breathe and my stomach slowly drops from nerves.

She shakes her dark head. “Nah, can’t be,” she answers to my ridiculous disappointment. “Never mind.” She throws me a lighter. “Go light the candles in the windows.”

Ugh....

Grabbing the lighter, I move towards the windows but make a stop at the table where Blaise was sitting to pick up the money. One princely pound is all he gave me in tips.

But it doesn’t matter. Because I have a feeling that tomorrow he’ll say yes to become a patron and fund my brains out.
