“We have overridden the ship’s command systems to ensure it does not leave,” the official confided. “The ship’s crew are denied entrance to the planet until you have cleared them.”

Yas’kihn nodded. “Thank you. Kaan is a valued ally of Ahn’hudin.” He took a breath then said loudly, “Hail the ship.”

The official nodded to the male standing behind a console. After a second, that male announced, “Communication channels are open, Your Majesty.”

“Hail theBloodclaw,” Yas’kihn’s voice rang out.

“This is Admiral Sor’Ulen mek Yirog,” came the response.

“Admiral, this is your former General Superior Yas’kihn mek Kuresh’Zha.”

“General Superior, it is good to renew your acquaintance. What is going on? Have you word of the emperor?”

“Iam now emperor of Ahn’hudin, having defeated Gudren in combat.”

“Forgive me, General Yas’kihn, but I require confirmation.”

Yas’kihn did not begrudge the admiral’s caution. “Indeed, you shall have it. The royal family’s attending priest will announce the confirmation and will officiate my mating ceremony. I request your attendance.”

“Send the priest to the ship so I may question him without interference or influence,” the admiral countered smoothly.

Yas’kihn’s eyes narrowed. “Do you not congratulate me on having found my mate?”

“I will observe all the traditions of our people upon speaking with the priest,” came the response.

“Admiral Sor’Ulen, you know me to be an honorable male.”

“I do.”

“Then will you not accept my word?”

“General Superior, forgive my requirement for confirmation. I am merely cautious.”

Yas’kihn nodded. “I understand and applaud your caution. I will have the priest conveyed to the ship for interrogation.”

“You have my thanks, General.”

At Yas’kihn’s signal, the male at the console closed communication with the ship. He looked at the official who hovered nearby, waiting for the foreign royal’s command.

“I shall return to my quarters. See that food and drink are delivered, as well as clothing suitable for my bride.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

Yas’kihn, tired and dreading the political machinations he would have to navigate and survive, walked back to the modest quarters he shared with his bride who slept soundly and drooled onto her pillow.

After several minutes in the cleansing unit to wash off the detritus and stench of battle, he sat at the desk in the room and made a list of tasks to accomplish, people to notify, and names to promote. Colonel Horas, he thought, would make an excellent general superior. The seasoned warrior was honorable to his core, intelligent, and insightful. His loyalty to Ahn’hudin could not be questioned. Yas’kihn rather thought Horas’ bondmate, Sarus, the more dominant of the two, but he had not quite the age and experience needed to succeed as general superior. Yas’kihn considered Sarus’ attributes and qualifications and nodded to himself. The Scourge of Moriya would make an excellent vice general, especially now that he was short a couple dozen. He pondered the issue of their mate, a fierce Ahn-hudi-human hybrid who had defied him—him!—more than once. He would have to persuade Horas to accept the appointment, for he knew Horas would not risk his mate’s unhappiness. By all accounts, she would not be best pleased to move to the royal compound.

Come to think of it, he himself was disinclined to risk Louella’s happiness.I will do whatever is required to ensure her well-being.

Was moving his newly appointed general superior to the royal compound even necessary? With the technological communications they had available, they did not require Horas’ routine physical presence as was traditional. Horas could simply travel to the palace a few times a year for special occasions and important meetings and as needed when the full executive leadership of the military convened. Yes, that would serve to fulfill the duties of the positionandkeep Lady Evangeline happy in her home laboratory.

Yas’kihn would have died before admitting his relief to have come up with that solution. He glanced back at his sleeping mate and began to fret over what he’d need to do to keep her happy. If she learned he could deny her nothing, thenshe’drule Ahn’hudin, not him. He did not look forward to her inevitable defiance when he again presented her with the gown of ribbons.

Pretty spark, the people of Ahn’hudin must see you observe our customs, no matter how objectionable you find them. To refuse to do so is to dishonor your mate and emperor. His heart clenched as she exhaled on a soft snore and he silently vowed,I will compromise where I can for your comfort and peace of mind.

Chapter14

Louella awoke in what had become familiar circumstances, warm and cozy wrapped within the possessive shelter of Yas’kihn’s body. One enormous hand splayed over her abdomen, the thumb absently stroking the underside of her right breast while the other wrapped around her thigh, the thumb of that hand pressing delicately against her throbbing clitoris. The long, thick protrusion of his cock throbbed between her butt cheeks even as one heavy leg parted hers. The fleshy tip of his tail gently stroked her labia, spreading the moisture that seeped from her body. As though trained, her body heated and her pussy gushed.
