“Me too. You were great out there.”

“Thanks.” Seconds pass as we stare at each other, getting lost in one another.

“Yo, D!”

Donnie glances over his shoulder when one of his teammates calls for him.

Donnie turns back to me.

“Meet me at my car?” He asks.

Without giving me a chance to react, Donnie jumps off the fence and jogs away toward his team. Tiny’s statement from earlier wreaked havoc on my mind.

Donnie and I kiss like we’re a couple. Are we? We haven’t made it official, but then again, Donnie and I are just….us.

“Donnie!” I call out before he gets further away.

He pauses and turns around to face me. “Yeah?”

“What are we?” He looks confused and jogs back to me.

“What do you mean?

“This”— I wave my finger between us— “what am I to you?”

He cocks his head, a mild smirk on his lips. “You’re mine.”

A shudder rolls through me the way he says mine, like I’m a possession. You’d think that would freak me out because of my past, but it just turns me on.

Am I fucked up, or what?

“So that makes me yours,” I say as a statement.

He winks and jogs back but glances once more over his shoulder and says, “I’ll meet you by my car.”

“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my boy this happy.” Jacquie smiles and wraps her arm around my shoulder.

I smile at her words and follow her back to our seats.

We gather our things and head toward the parking lot.

“Are you stopping over tonight?” she asks as we walk through the parking lot.

“Um, no. I have to get home and relieve Tia from babysitting duties.”

Jacquie laughs. “I understand. We’d love to have you over for dinner.”

“I’d like that too.”

She leans in for a hug and whispers, “Let’s plan for that real soon, ok?”

I nod and give her a warm smile.

“Would you like us to wait with you?” Charles asks as he stands between his and Donnie’s cars.

“No, I’ll be fine. I’m sure he’ll be out soon.”

They both nod and say goodbye before driving away.
