"What are you thinking?" I ask her, unable to contain the nerves coursing through my body.

She turns to face me, her eyes soft and gentle. "I'm thinking about us," she says, her voice barely above a whisper. "And how much I want you."

My heart pounds in my chest.

No other girl has ever made me feel like this before. It's all so new and confusing to me. Scar has brought out emotions that I didn't even know existed.

I can’t resist reaching out and pulling her close. My hands slide down the curves of her body, landing on her waist and gripping it tightly. Her breath hitches as I bring my gaze down to her lips.

"Say it again," I demand, my voice low and husky. I know what I want to hear but need her to say it.

"I want you," she whispers, her voice laced with desire. My heart swells with emotion as I pull her closer, our bodies pressed together.

Her soft lips meet mine, and a surge of electricity shoots to my dick. I have never felt this way—alive, invigorated, and completely consumed by passion. We kiss urgently, passionately, and recklessly.

"Ricky, wait," she pleads breathlessly.

Reluctantly, I pull back from her mouth and stare down at her as our chests rapidly rise and fall against each other.

"We can take it slow," I tell her, dropping my head to her forehead.

I feel her hands pressing firmly onto my chest as she nods in agreement, and with a confident gesture, she places a lingering kiss on my lips.

"Good night, Ricky," she says before she walks into the house.

As she walks away, a sense of emptiness washes over me. I hold onto the doorframe, my grip tight and resolute, as I carry the immense weight of my feelings for Scar. These emotions are powerful, compelling, and undeniable, and I refuse to let them go.

FORTY-SEVEN

SCAR

THANKSGIVING

“I’m so sorry, honey.” Mom continues to apologize for the hundredth time today.

It’s Turkey Day and Mom is getting ready to work a double shift. I don’t understand what the big deal is. She’s been working double shifts since I can remember.

“Mom, it’s okay. Dad will be home late tonight from his business trip, and we’ll celebrate tomorrow.” I try to reassure her but the guilt in her eyes is killing me.

I tilt my head at Mom and give her a “seriously” look. “Let it go, Mom.”

“Fine,” she finally relents and walks toward me. Her uniform with turkeys makes me smile.

“Is Gem at least coming over?”

I shake my head. “Nope. She’s out of town visiting her mom’s side of the family. Seriously, Mom. We’re going to be okay.”

Mom pulls me into a hug and gives me one more squeeze before she lets go. “Okay. I’ll be home in the morning.” She kisses me on the cheek and calls out for Shaun.

My little boy comes barreling down the hall and slides on the floor with his socks. “Oh!” Mom chuckles when she catches him.

“Be good for Mommy. Mwah!” She places a big kiss on his cheek, and he hugs her tight.

“Love you, Nana.”

“Love you too, sweetheart.” Giving him one more squeeze, she grabs her purse and keys from the counter and walks out the door but not before she blows us a kiss. Once the door is shut, Shaun runs to me and wraps his arms around my leg. He looks up at me. “What now?”

“Now, I am going to bake cookies. Do you want to be my little helper?”
